Disney's FORT WILDERNESS CABINS & CAMPGROUNDS Information & Questions

I just feel so bad for everyone up there, especially our friend with the trailer. I hope that snow melts so you don't have to dig it out!

No kidding! But when there's a will, there's a way....JeepinDad will get the job done

And what did I decide on the golf cart? OH I don't know! It's going to come down to budget. At least I don't have to decide til we get there. I imagine we'll take one for at least part of the trip. I need to book a few more weddings. lol (Anyone out there need a photographer this summer?! I travel! :thumbsup2 ) I am hoping there are lots of proposals happening tonight and they'll all call me next week! I am splurging on a day at Universal. Doing the two parks deal, and so I think to do 2 parks in 1 day, you really need to splurge on the express passes, and well, that takes it to $600 for the 3 of us, plus $60 to get there and back to FW. And while that's totally worth it in my head, it's still $660 on top of the Disney $. Work hard, to play hard, right? :cool1:

Hoping those bookings come through:thumbsup2 If you were closer, I'd use you!

And I'm in total agreement with your statement....work hard to play hard!!! :woohoo: Then go to Disney!!! So is the Universal a sure thing or just something you're tossing around??

Hstrickland,
Yes we do camp at the Fort with our RV and we will be there this summer for 10 days, we ususally will bounce trips between the rv and our DVC so we get the best of both worlds that way. Long trips with the rv and shorter ones flying and DVC units.

Definitely the best of both worlds!!! :thumbsup2 And like two different vacations, is't it?! I keep saying we're going to try a villa, but it hasn't happened. We had BWV booked then changed to WL CL :upsidedow I've booked BCV twice, and then changed. One day!!

Can't wait March 23-28 woo hoo:)

:woohoo::dance3::cheer2:

We have a 2008 Fun Finder X240 that we bought last summer, before that we had an 8' Coleman Taos popup that we loved but we out grew. The Fun Finder works great for us, it has a queen size for us and bunk beds for the boys. It also has a dinette that converts to a bed, it could sleep one adult or two kids.

Thanks a million for sharing those great photos of your camper!!! Looks like total fun. One of my concerns is the "outgrowing" part. Our kids are 12, 8, and 6, so we certainly don't want to invest in something then have to buy bigger in a couple of years. I bet your boys love camping, don't they?!

Woohoo
Headin for the cabin 4/28 to 5/8 for third year running . Can't wait to get out the cart and have a look around.best vacation spot I know of.

:welcome: Great time of year to go to WDW...not too hot, and not too crowded! And you're right - one great vacation spot for sure!!!

We had DDP so we had the mugs as part of that. We're used to being able to just hit the food court on the way in and out of the resort during the day. But again, not a big deal for us and having the full fridge was awesome. We kept it stocked with water and ICE (for the kids). It's probably best I didn't have has much access to Diet Coke, my caffeine of choice.

Since we have a car, I'm definitely going to buy drinks and pack the fridge full ;) I think it will be easier. Coffee is my caffeine of choice

We'll start the planning soon and even if we don't make the Fort for the next trip I'll check in. I love reading everyone's posts.

One of the great things about Disney is the choice of resorts it offers!! We love trying new places at the World....always a new experience. And remember, y'all are always welcome here:goodvibes

I love the shirts! How did you do them?

I was wondering the same thing! ::yes::

Can't wait March 23-28 woo hoo:)

Love that camper!

We'll be there the same time you are so if you see the camper and we are around stop and say hi.

We are heading out 3/21 no matter what!!!:drive: We ended up with over 20" of snow the last few days and more on the way Tuesday morning but then we are supposed to get a warm up where hopefully a lot of it will melt.

When we bought our popup we knew we would be out growing it in a couple years so we did our research and made sure we bought it at a good price so after making a few small improvements when it was time to sell we were able to sell it for a little more than we paid for it. Our current camper should last us for a while, but again we did our research on what we wanted and what they were selling for so I think we got a decent deal where we could get our money back out of it. Even if we couldn't, we use it enough that the family time and memories are enough to make up for any financial loss we would see. The big hit we took on this camper was that we traded our minivan in on the Avalanche to tow it so it is a lot more painful at the gas pump.

I love the shirts! How did you do them?

Sorry, I haven't been on here in a bit. Been shopping and packing. We will be at the Fort tomorrow!!!
My crafty friend helped me with the shirts. She has a silouette machine. She did the swirls and lettering on her laptop and then we used the machine to cut it. We used the fabric vinyl and it just irons on.
I can't wait to wear them Wednesday. :woohoo:

I need a recommendation for dinner tomorrow night. We should get to the fort around 6:30. Have the dining plan but all of our TS credits are planned for. Thinking we could take the boat to WL and get CS from roaring forks or bus to DTD and go to Earl of Sandwich. Suggestions?

:thumbsup2 Wouldn't that be nice!!!! Can you imagine??!! How's the weather for y'all?? That really is nice for sure!! We've tossed the idea around about buying a camper...being able to pick up and go for a long weekend sounds awesome! What kind of camper do y'all have? How many does it sleep? I guess my concern is having enough room for our family of 5. :rotfl: Love it!!! Perfect name for y'all!!! I'm being nosy ;) Do y'all camp at the Fort? :yay: for a mini update about the Fort!!! I can totally see why the refillable mugs wouldn't be a good investment. Probably better to keep sodas in the fridge. Glad the transportation worked for y'all. You hear differing opinions about it. Now you have to start planning your next Disney vacation:thumbsup2 Have you thought about AoA suites? My sister and her family stayed in the ASMu suite over Christmas. While the rooms were super clean and very Disney, it wasn't what they expected as far as suites go. Just her opinion, of course;) So glad y'all had a great trip and made it home safely! :thumbsup2 You have the same goal as me....all resorts at least once! October use to be a great time to visit the World, but since so many schools have Fall break now, unfortunately it's become crowded. We've always enjoyed going the very last week in May or first of June. While there are lots of people there, it isn't unbearable at all.

We use to have a travel trailer/ camper that had a triple bunk in the back and queen bed up front. Slept 5 without even opening the sleeper sofa or folding down the table. Just find one that you all fit into! We did a 2 week at Ft W in our camper and it was great! That was many years ago~ kids all grown now : (

How about Trails Ed or if the weather is nice get a Giddy up n Go bucket of chicken and sides to eat back at your cabin, and enjoy the Fort.

Have a blast. I see you're from MI as well. We're in SW MI and it's snowing right now. WDW is a good place to be!!

Oooh, the bucket of chicken sounds like a great idea!! I can't wait to enjoy the fort. Thinking we will do the campfire tomorrow night too. :goodvibes

It is just starting to snow here. Looking at 3-6 inches between now and morning. I was worried about our flight but since we don't leave til about 2:30, we should be ok.

So I'm considering getting a tent site at FW for the EEC 5K in May and/or the ToT 10 Miler in Oct, but I don't have a tent. I do, however, have a Honda Element that will easily fit an inflatable mattress, and would be fine sleeping on that for a few days. Do you *HAVE* to use a tent on the partial sites, or would they be OK with me SUV camping?

Also, what type of passholder discounts are usually available? I won't be activating it until April, so I can't see prices now. Would they even still be available for the EEC weekend if I can't book them until April 10? I'm not sure how far out they book, and either the info isn't on the boards or I'm just not putting in the right search words. :)

:upsidedow I totally understand that!!!! We traded our minivan last year and bought a YukonXL She's thirsty for sure  But would definitely be able to pull a camper without a problem:thumbsup2

Sorry, I haven't been on here in a bit. Been shopping and packing. We will be at the Fort tomorrow!!!

WHAT?!!!! Leaving today??!! Well forgive us for not giving you a proper Bon Voyage party!!!!!

:dance3: :cheer2::cheer2: :cool1::yay::car:

.....and of course a little pixiedust: for safe travels!!!

If you have time, the boat to WL would be great!! The bus to DTD can take a while, so plan accordingly....ya never know.

That sounds plenty big! I would rather not have to open a sofa to sleep, ya know. I think it would be more comfortable that way. But then who am I to say...we've never camped in one

How about Trails Ed or if the weather is nice get a Giddy up n Go bucket of chicken and sides to eat back at your cabin, and enjoy the Fort.

Yummmmmm!!! That sounds great!!! And really easy...no travels by bus!

:scratchin Good question. Wish I had an answer for you. You might want to check out the Camping Forum on the Boards. My husband calls me a "cabin camper" as I don't know much about tents. He would be perfectly content to go to Disney with his tent and sleeping bag. You might could call the Disney reservation line and get some answers from them, too. Sometimes info from the horses mouth is better ;)

I use this site a lot for answers about all discounts....click on the link below and hopefully it will give you some AP answers.

Once you are on the site, you will have to scroll down to the AP section. You'll find tons of information about everything Disney...and they are usually spot-on.

We are campers too. I had started tent camping with the kids quite a while ago. Dh didn't enjoy it but would join us occasionally. We had a lot of friends who camped and were continually telling him he would enjoy it in a travel trailer. Through a sign from above, a neighbor was selling theirs during the neighborhood garage sale. It was a 28ft, no slides and no bunks, comfortably slept 4. We have a family of7. It was about 15 years old and in great shape, only cost $2500. We bought it immediately. The family we bought it from included everything we needed to start camping (bedding, dishes, pots and pans, outdoor supplies, etc).
We used it a lot that summer, always having the tent for some of the kids. It was enough for us to know that we LOVED camping as a family. We started searching craigslist for something with a slide out and bunks. After quite a bit of searching, we Found a 30ft with everything we wanted. It was a 2000 but in great shape. Paid $6000 and sold the old one for what we paid even though we kept much of what was inside!
The camper we have now will last us until the kids are grown. We've already started liking at what we want when we are ready to move up. :)

Most of our camping has kept us within about 3 hours from home. We have friends that take their camper to FW regularly and we have talked about joining them. Dh has since decided that he doesn't like the idea of towing the camper that far. He said he would rather just stay at a DVC villa or a cabin. Since I don't think there is a cost savings, that is probably what we eill work on for our 2016 trip.

It'll be 78° and sunny here today. Not WDW , but I'll take this over the snow many of you are having, any day!!! STAY WARM!!!

Quick, help me get into a better mood. My mom got here before is and checked in. We got loop 2800, my last choice. :(. I wanted to be closer to things.

Okay. Sorry you didn't get the loop you wanted but....
There's still a lot of the snow on the ground in Michigan.
You're not at work..
You're hangin' with Mickey and the gang...
Campfire with Chip and Dale...

Have fun!! Have mom watch the kids tonight while you go to the tavern. If you don't drink go find somewhere to get ice cream. Ice Cream makes everything better. Ooo or just get a Mickey Bar and watch the fireworks at the beach (of course we never seemed to make it down to the beach to watch them but it sounds really nice!

Just smile!!! You are lucky. You are at Disney now. I still have 33 days to go. Ugggg! Don't think it will ever get here. :goodvibes

Thank you both. The Cabin is even better than I expected. Nice to be near the bus to the parks. We were starving when we arrived so we did the Giddyup n go. Great suggestion! Just what we needed! Headed back to the cabin and are heading to bed early so we can be at MK early tomorrow. :). I am blessed! Was just feeling a bit stressed between the loop and an extra long DME ride. Why do they go past FW, go to GF, the WL, CR and finally FW? Wouldn't it make sense to do FW, WL, CR then GF? It seemed like a lot of extra driving.

Y'all make camping sound like soooooo much fun!!! Wish we could come across a deal like that! I'm kinda like your hubby...not sure I would want to haul a camper that far either. Of course my DH would probably say go for it so we can actually do some real camping:laughing:

And you're already planning your next Disney trip...:rolleyes1

BTW, I'll be at FW in 10 hours!!!!!
