Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun - 2025 Edition

Maybe related to the train.
the train (Sun Rail extension) that might be built in 10 years? why would that cause anything to be done now? the train is still a pie in the sky idea. they are trying to fund the PD&E Study, which is a 2+ year study, which would be followed by a multi-year design phase (unfunded at present) followed by right-of-way acquisition (unfunded) and a multi-year construction project currently estimated at $4 billion. No one is making any decisions based upon that right now.

Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon will be open from May 21 to September 7

I just saw that on bsky. Just in time for our trip (we get on on 5/25).

Originally we were only going to use one of our entitlements, on the day we switch resorts, but now I’m wondering if it won’t be fun hitting both parks for free. The only thing we really had planned for arrival day was dinner at Rosa Mexicano.

Happy for the people who wanted this! But to me, this wouldn't be worth it for flights before 1 p.m. . . . you have to:

(1) Take time out of your last full day of vacation to pack your bags

(2) Remember to remove everything from your checked bag that you might need the next morning

(3) Save room in your carryon for your pajamas and toiletries, which means less room for fragile souvenirs and things you actually might use on the plane

(4) Which also means you must bring a carryon, which is going to be a lot more expensive if they expand to other airlines like Frontier

To me, that's more of a hassle than just checking my bag myself.

I'm hopeful this is just a sign of things to come. I will say if we were only getting one way; we'd much rather they deliver our bags to our room and then we travel back with then, but crossing fingers to get both again at some point.

They don’t care about your home airport rn bc it won’t tell them anything for the purposes of this pilot.

MCO has been struggling with luggage handling for quite a while now as its systems for it approach end of life and imo bringing RAC back in some form is mostly about alleviating a pain point for Disney guests that’s about to get a lot worse. Notice that they specifically call out assisting MCO ops in that announcement. It makes sense to focus on checking at the resort with that in mind, and since Southwest handles the biggest pax volume there and the values have the biggest number of guests, it's a good sweet spot for testing (imo that's why they started it just at Pop).

But remember Bag Check is the Bags Inc guy, give it time. I think we'll see it expand quicker than may be assumed.

Yeah, this is what worries me . . . that it's more for the airport's convenience than the guest's. They can check the bags overnight when volume is lower. I imagine not a lot of people with morning flights bothered to participate in this at Pop, hence why they expanded to all values so soon.

But, I hope I'm wrong and this winds up actually being convenient!
