Disney Gift Cards - Target?

For a few days, I have been attempting to purchase Disney gift cards at Target.com to pay my annual dues. I'm using a regular credit card (I don't have a Target red card) that has a 5% cash back deal at Target right now. I first attempted to purchase $1,500 (the max the site would let me) and Target cancelled the order. I have since tried to purchase progressively smaller increments, each time seeing my order cancelled by Target.

At this point, I can't imagine Target is telling me that I can't buy a $100 gift card. But, I confirmed with the credit card that they are not putting a hold on the transaction or denying it or anything like that. There's no balance on the card, so it's not like I'm over my limit. I haven't purchased any other gift cards from Target (like...ever...that I can recall) to where they might have flagged my account as some sort of problem.

Has anyone run into this? What am I doing wrong?

TIA!

Did you call and/or ask Target why they are canceling the order?

Are the gift cards to be shipped or picked up in store?

Does your 5% credit card cash back work instore as well or just on Target.com?

I wonder if there is a stock issue and the system isn’t showing it as out of stock?

Have you spoke to your CC company? There are a lot of scams that ask for payment by CC and I’m wondering if the attempted $1500 purchase triggered some sort of fraud/safety check.

Edit: this happened to my mom which is why I’m mentioning it.

Trying to avoid that if there's an obvious answer. It sounds like there isn't, so that might be my next step. I'm sure it's going to take 10 representatives to get me an unclear/open-ended answer that gets me no closer to a solution.

Not sure why that would matter. Something is not letting the transaction go through to begin with. This is a popular CC that can be used anywhere - it would be unreasonable for Target or the CC company to assume that I'm specifically using the card for the cash back and rejecting the transaction on those grounds. With that said, both appear to qualify.

That's kind of what I'm wondering (and seeing if others have experienced it too), but it would be nice if Target mentioned that. It's not like they have a sale going on, like Best Buy, to where you would assume this to be the case ... I would be paying face value.

Yep, this was my first thought. I figured the CC company was just denying the charge because I don't use this CC a lot and a $1,500 online gift card purchase seems highly suspect. They confirmed it's not coming from them.

That is customer service almost everywhere these days! Coincidentally, Discover has always had first rate CS.
You might want to give Target chat a try, might be slightly less annoying.

I purchased $500 worth of Target gift cards over the past 4 days (bought a $100 and a $25 card each day). I've been doing this since my Target account had a deal to "spend $110 or more four times and get a $40 reward on your account." I used my usual credit card for each of these purchases and they all went through with no problem. My usual card (a Visa card) doesn't have any cash back deal at Target right now.

Not sure if any of this helps, just giving you a data point that's currently working buying Disney gift cards at Target.

I ordered two $500 DGCs on Friday or Saturday and then two more today without any issues. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I did use my Redcard credit card though… I really don’t think it’s a stock issue as the app just allowed me to add 3 more $500 DGCs to my cart 🤔

Giftcards.com currently has 10% off disney cards with a coupon code (shown on site). Chase is also giving 5% back up to $50 for giftcards.com, register on the chase site or app (eg your disney credit card).
You can stack these offers.
These are physical cards that have to be mailed so is a couple of bucks postage.

WOW! I do have a Chase card that I never use too. You mentioned Chase's limit -- is there a limit on the 10% off part? I don't see one and can add enough gift cards to my cart to cover my dues.

If not, that's pretty good, I'm surprised they aren't sold out.

You never stated what the card was just that it has a deal at Target.
I'm fairly confident it is the discover card as you are trying to purchase $1,500 exactly which would max out the Q4 5% categories of Amazon.com and Target but who knows it could be some off the wall card that not many people have heard of.

Several years ago Discover offered Target.com and Amazon.com in which you would not be able to go into an actual Target store to buy the gift cards.
Since this year the Discover does not state Target.com it can be used in store which I believe is where @DisTravels was going; that you could physically visit a Target and swipe at the register to obtain your gift cards and still obtain the $75 cash back.

It seems to me that to get 5% off at Target, you have to use a Target Debit Card tied to your bank account or a Target credit card. Are you using a Target Credit Card?
Also, the first year I did this they limited the size of my transactions until the previous one had cleared. Recently, they have allowed large purchase to go through with no problem.

The OP stated a regular card was being used not a Target one.

You are able to get 5% off of Target purchases from Time to time with other cards.

Discover/Chase Freedom/Chase Freedom Flex/Citi Dividend all have rotating categories every quarter that allow you to obtain 5% back up to a certain max.
Citi Custom Cash gives you 5% back in the category you spend the most but is capped at $500 spend.

Right now for Q4 2024, Discover is offering 5% at Target which is why I assume the OP is using that card.

Thanks!

I bought some with my Chase card (5% back) and also using Rakuten for an additional 2.5% back!
