Disney Dream Doesn't Have Solid Whitewall Verandahs?!?

We were in stateroom 6690 on the Dream in May'11 and Nov'11. The verandah has about a 2 foot "white" solid wall that is at floor level, above that it is clear plexiglass with the normal railings on the outside the plexiglass.
The white wall portion does not hinder your view at all, it is at ankle/lower calf level.

MJ...this is 9172 on the Dream. The "white wall" is really low. All of the verandahs along the far aft of the ship are like this.

We were in 8188 last August and the verandah was HUGE!!! lol

^^ I wouldn't consider the railing to be "whitewall", though, since it's only around 2-3 feet high.

I miss the Dream, especially our stateroom!... Next time we sail on the Dream or Fantasy, we will definitely want to get 8188 again!

Next Trip: 7-nt Med 2013!

We are in 6690 in June '12! So excited!!! I see you had that room twice--would you book it again?

Yes, thank you.....that is why I asked austr98.....which made it sound like they are full wall solid wall verandahs on Dream/Fantasy which I did not think was the case.

We have this room on 2 of our 4 upcoming cruises on the Fantasy

So, there are absolutely no waist high whitewall verandah cabins anywhere on the Dream?

OMG have fun!!

One more thing we liked about it... Every night, everything is dark (aside from the verandah light)!! All you'd see is pitch black and all you'd hear is the crashing of the water... It's nice and relaxing there in the middle of the night... We used to always hang out there with the rest of the family and talk about our day... Thinking about all this is making me miss the boat more, considering our next cruise isn't for more than another year :/

Anyway, I'm not sure if you guys will like the pitch-blackness out at night, but we sure enjoyed it! :thumbsup2

Uh, I don't believe so... Sorry...

The verandah looks bigger than the regular verandah, but not as nice. Plus they are at the very front or back of the boat. Good or bad????

There are no 6A staterooms forward. All of them are aft.

We had a solid walled verandah once the only time we couldn't pick our stateroom in advance and would not do it again. You cannot see over it while seated on your deck chairs; to look at the ocean you have to stand up. We felt it retained heat and didn't make the room feel as light as a clear walled verandah did.

After fielding complaints for years that the solid-walled verandah was (at least to many people) not on par with the clear plexi-walled verandah that cost the same, Disney re-priced the solid-walled verandah cabins a bit less, and the plexi-walled verandah cabins a bit more. I know there are some people who have posted that they like the solid-walled verandahs, and I'm sure they have their reasons, but if I'm paying for an ocean view, I want to be able to see the ocean while sitting on my deck chair or even lying on the bed.

I have one booked but have never stayed in one or seen one. the Dream supposedly has only shin-high walls though, unlike the classic ships, which had chest-high walls on some staterooms.

To the left of this picture you can see the 6A verandahs. Compare how much of the doors you can see, with how much of the doors is visible on the staterooms to the right with clear verandahs. You can see they aren't chest-high walls. But if that is still too much wall for you, I think you need to go up a couple of steps to get the clear ones.

If anyone has stayed in a full walled, solid wall verandah on the Dream please post a pic.

I don't think there are any but if there is we would like to know what cabin numbers they are. Would like to put this confusion to rest!!!

Thanks,

MJ

Thanks so much for the info and the picture. This really helps. The wall doesn't look all that bad. HUM??? Maybe I'll save myself $900 and do the white wall verandah. My only concern is being at that part of the ship. Would it be noisy?

We have booked one of these cabins as well and are "anxious" to see what it is like. I am ok with the white wall but it's the other issues (noise and movement) that concern me somewhat. FWIW, I just fell into this particular choice (6A GTY) and might not do so again. No room assignment thus far. We are a little over 2 months out and perhaps will even find ourselves upgraded, which I would not mind.

I am merging this with the thread that has all the pics and discussion of the solid white wall verandahs on the Dream.
