T-Rex, like RFC and Yak & Yeti, is owned by the Landry restaurant chain. Several of the non-Disney owned restaurants don't participate in the DP, I guess they feel the reimbursement they get from Disney when guests use their credits is not sufficient.
We had dinner at TRex on Superbowl Sunday. It's definitely not on the dining plan.
DVC members can get a 10% discount on their ENTREES ONLY....not appetizers, desserts, etc.
Daisy - the menu looks a little on the pricey side...is it decent at least? I know the BIGGEST thing about it is the decor / atmosphere. That's why I picked it for DS's birthday dinner but I hope it's also worth the bucks?!(or am i better off not knowing?
)
JMHO you should give them another try I've been to at least 8 different RF as well as several other Landry resturants and have with few exceptions had vey good experiences. RF and TRex are what they are, so I don't expect 5star food but they've always been fun and tasty.(That said I don't do Rainforest. I think all the food is made in the home office in Who knows where and transported by slow boat to your resturant. And they seem to train the servers to "throw the food at the table and never return")

I unless it's your son's request. I would plan to eat birthday dinner elsewhere. I doubt you'll be happy with the food, I've never had anything there that was remarkable, nothing bad, nothing good, just mass market american food. Personally I would go to just about any place else at the parks/resorts.
Places I would look at would be Crystal Palace or Chef Mickey's or even some place in Animal Kingdom, or Boma (depending on the ages, Jiko if you want something special) are all really good. And I think all those places give you better bang for your buck. And have something different that your standard decor.
I'm sure we'll eat at RfC, and TRex, again. But it won't be because I'm pushing to get back to get something on the menu. Also the other issue I have with RfC is that they are all over the US. So I'm not going to use a meal slot on vacation to eat mediocre food when I can go up to the Burlington Mall to get the same thing.
Something I've seen announced, but not done since I've not been back since it started 2 weeks ago, is animal kingdom does picnics. All Ears Story about the picnics.

We ate there in January, and we thought that the amount of food given for the price actually made it a pretty good value! I couldn't finish my sandwich or fries - my meal alone would have fed 2 people. My DH had lasagne and again it was more than enough to share. My DD6's kid's meal was more than she could eat, though she thoroughly enjoyed the jello she got with it (can't remember if it was a side or an included dessert) and was excited to have a souvenir cup!
We did get the 10% DVC discount, and didn't really pay more to eat there than we do to eat locally at Chili's or Friday's. We did have lunch shortly after they opened, but I don't think they have different pricing for lunch vs. dinner.
One warning - Build-a-Dino is a very big draw! It addicted my DD to Build-a-Bear (which, oddly enough, can be less expensive than Webkinz, my DD's other stuffy-wuff addiction).
While we only ate there once, we visited a second time and spent probably an hour in the store alone. The store also have a mini AKL Boneyard-style dig area (in the shop to the left of the entrance as you walk in) along with a "gem"-mining sluice - you can buy bags to sift through to find gems. Our favorite, though, were the geodes - they sell a few different sizes and types, and even have a mechanism to break them open on-site. We got one for each nephew for their birthdays - their dad has a wet saw to cut them open with so we left them whole. The oldest was actually fairly excited to get a rock for his birthday!

We didn't order much...Nachos appetizer for $13.99 that DD14 & I split (it wah HUGE and good) & my mother got some sort of quesadilla appetizer (also good & HUGE).
None of us could finish anything! The portions of what we ordered are large!
Btw, I have a DS11, & he would enjoy T-Rex for his b-day meal...probably followed by an hour at DisneyQuest.
Thanks - that's good to know...I was a bit worried it would be too young for his age now!! I was just hoping it would be a good fit! He loves quesadilla's too so that's always an option for him! With a kid, the atmosphere sometimes outweighs the food quality!![]()
