Does anybody know if the new TREX restaurant at downtown disney is included in the dining plan.

I looked at a couple of unofficial places and it wasn't listed.

If not part of the plan anybody with ideas why not?

I doubt that it is. The Rainforest Cafe is not on the plan and they are owned by the same company.

I could not make ADR's there thru the Disney Dining number - I had to call them directly so I would guess not!! They said they do offer a 10% discount tho for DVC and AP's. We're trying it out next month for DS's birthday so I have high hopes for it to be fun!!

T-Rex, like RFC and Yak & Yeti, is owned by the Landry restaurant chain. Several of the non-Disney owned restaurants don't participate in the DP, I guess they feel the reimbursement they get from Disney when guests use their credits is not sufficient.

I expect that is 100% correct. Disney cannot be paying those resturants much which is why food quality is going DOWN!

Personally I am a fan of places that don't "play" or at least get two credits. Food seems better.

(That said I don't do Rainforest. I think all the food is made in the home office in Who knows where and transported by slow boat to your resturant. And they seem to train the servers to "throw the food at the table and never return" :confused3)

We had dinner at TRex on Superbowl Sunday. It's definitely not on the dining plan.

DVC members can get a 10% discount on their ENTREES ONLY....not appetizers, desserts, etc.

Daisy - the menu looks a little on the pricey side...is it decent at least? I know the BIGGEST thing about it is the decor / atmosphere. That's why I picked it for DS's birthday dinner but I hope it's also worth the bucks?!:confused3 (or am i better off not knowing?:rotfl:)

We ate at TRex during our trip last month. It's not included on the dining Plan. The atmosphere is really cute. The kids loved it. We thought the menu was kind of limited and pricey though. I ordered an appetizer because there was nothing listed that appealed to me. It's all a matter of individual taste I guess. We did enjoy the prehistoric animals and the meteor showers.

We ate there in January, and we thought that the amount of food given for the price actually made it a pretty good value! I couldn't finish my sandwich or fries - my meal alone would have fed 2 people. My DH had lasagne and again it was more than enough to share. My DD6's kid's meal was more than she could eat, though she thoroughly enjoyed the jello she got with it (can't remember if it was a side or an included dessert) and was excited to have a souvenir cup!

We did get the 10% DVC discount, and didn't really pay more to eat there than we do to eat locally at Chili's or Friday's. We did have lunch shortly after they opened, but I don't think they have different pricing for lunch vs. dinner.

One warning - Build-a-Dino is a very big draw! It addicted my DD to Build-a-Bear (which, oddly enough, can be less expensive than Webkinz, my DD's other stuffy-wuff addiction).

While we only ate there once, we visited a second time and spent probably an hour in the store alone. The store also have a mini AKL Boneyard-style dig area (in the shop to the left of the entrance as you walk in) along with a "gem"-mining sluice - you can buy bags to sift through to find gems. Our favorite, though, were the geodes - they sell a few different sizes and types, and even have a mechanism to break them open on-site. We got one for each nephew for their birthdays - their dad has a wet saw to cut them open with so we left them whole. The oldest was actually fairly excited to get a rock for his birthday! :rotfl:

JMHO you should give them another try I've been to at least 8 different RF as well as several other Landry resturants and have with few exceptions had vey good experiences. RF and TRex are what they are, so I don't expect 5star food but they've always been fun and tasty.

I unless it's your son's request. I would plan to eat birthday dinner elsewhere. I doubt you'll be happy with the food, I've never had anything there that was remarkable, nothing bad, nothing good, just mass market american food. Personally I would go to just about any place else at the parks/resorts.

Places I would look at would be Crystal Palace or Chef Mickey's or even some place in Animal Kingdom, or Boma (depending on the ages, Jiko if you want something special) are all really good. And I think all those places give you better bang for your buck. And have something different that your standard decor.

I'm sure we'll eat at RfC, and TRex, again. But it won't be because I'm pushing to get back to get something on the menu. Also the other issue I have with RfC is that they are all over the US. So I'm not going to use a meal slot on vacation to eat mediocre food when I can go up to the Burlington Mall to get the same thing.

Something I've seen announced, but not done since I've not been back since it started 2 weeks ago, is animal kingdom does picnics. All Ears Story about the picnics.

Well, we're going over Memorial Day weekend so I'm sort of out of time to be making other arrangements at this point for ADR's since we're down to 5 weeks. We have never eaten at any of the other Landry's restaurants before so I have nothing to compare to. No, this was not a request by DS - this is actually a surprise trip for him for his 12th birthday - so he's not young any more...I don't anticipate having to "build a dinosaur" or anything. I just thought it would be a fun atmosphere. He's beyond wanting to do the character meals now and we did a breakfast at Chef Mickey's once that I thought was a huge disappointment. We actually LOVE Boma but this is a quick trip for the weekend and I don't want to spend hours trying to get there. (The last time we went there from OKW it took us OVER 1 & 1/2 hours in each direction 'cuz the buses were so bad!) We're staying at SSR on this trip so I figured eating at DTD would be the easiest solution.:confused3 We typically eat late (8:00ish) and MK is the only park open late that night - the others are still on an early closing schedule for that day - so I honestly wanted to avoid MK if it's the only park open late (past 7:00).

ANYWAY, I guess we'll try it once....if we don't care for the food then we'll have satisfied our curiosity about ever trying the Rainforest Cafe too.:rolleyes1

:rotfl2:I can't begin to tell you how many rocks I've washed over the years 'cuz they seem to live in DS's pockets!! :rotfl2: I now make him go thru his pockets with me every week when I sort out his laundry!

:thumbsup2 All the Landry's foods taste pretty much the same. Rainforest was much better before it was purchased by Landry's shortly after they opened.

Now you've the same foods, only with cute names. Bronto Buger, Rainforest Burger, I'm actually surprised there isn't a Yak Burger (yet).

Its a general problem around Disney. We debated regarding the DDE (or I guess TIW now). The price of that discount card has gone way up as have the prices at the restaurants. But I have not noticed any improvement in menu selection or quality. I suspect that Disney is making back its discounts elsewhere with its food and beverage profits.

We ate at both RC and TREX in November. IMHO, Rainforest Cafe's food is much better and a better value. However, the atmosphere at TREX is absolutely awesome for boys--especially the ice age room(I forget exactly what they call it, but it rocks! The meteor showers and the color changes are spectacular!) DH and I agreed that we would ALWAYS visit there, but for appetizers or desserts only.

We didn't order much...Nachos appetizer for $13.99 that DD14 & I split (it wah HUGE and good) & my mother got some sort of quesadilla appetizer (also good & HUGE).

None of us could finish anything! The portions of what we ordered are large!

Btw, I have a DS11, & he would enjoy T-Rex for his b-day meal...probably followed by an hour at DisneyQuest.

Thanks - that's good to know...I was a bit worried it would be too young for his age now!! I was just hoping it would be a good fit! He loves quesadilla's too so that's always an option for him! With a kid, the atmosphere sometimes outweighs the food quality!

You're welcome.

The quesadillas are called something like "T-rexadillas". :rotfl:

We're eating there this summer. DS & DH missed it when we ate there on Superbowl Sunday because they were off watching the game at the resort.

Yak & Yeti is the only Landry's restaurant at WDW included in the dining plan, probably because it is inside a theme park. Other than that one, Landry's has steadfastly refused to accept the dining plan at its restaurants.
