Hey all! I’m a lover of all things Disney, and prepping for my first cruise. I need you to settle a debate.

My good friend won’t try Disney because he said that Disney doesn’t sell alcohol and don’t let you bring it on. I said they do.

So, he said that they didn’t used to. Is that true? Was alcohol not sold on and not allowed to be carried onto Disney cruises in the past?

DCL doesn’t do unlimited alcohol packages like many other cruises. But you can buy a refillable beer mug or do a wine package. You can also carry on a set amount. Not sure how this has changed from years ago.

From my understanding the only thing ever dry was Magic Kingdom. And even that is no longer completely dry.
I have also been either sailing or following DCL for the past 16 years and in that time never dry

Menu from the maiden voyage of the Disney Magic in 1998 - note the alcoholic beverages available: https://disneycruiselineblog.com/20...ey-magic-maiden-voyage-promenade-lounge-menu/

As far as alcohol on modern Disney cruises, DCL ships have multiple bars/pubs, a bar at the adult pool, alcohol at the restaurants (including cocktail, wine, beer), various alcohol “tasting” seminars (tequila and margarita, wine, martini, alcohol + chocolate pairings, Champagne, Mojito & Caipirinha, Cognac, and more), specialty “drinks of the day” that can be brought to you on the pool deck, ordered at dinner, etc.

Trust me, Disney Cruise Line does not lack for alcohol, if that’s what gloats you’re boat. ;)

We have been cruising DCL since Day 1. We were on the Maiden Voyage of the Disney Magic which was their first ship. I can assure you they sold booze since the very beginning. I can't remember if they allowed you to bring booze onboard since Day 1 but soon after they definitely did. They used to let you bring unlimited amounts onboard of any kind of alcohol but now they allow you to bring 2 bottles of wine or a six pack of beer per adult. All beverages (including if you want to bring a favorite soda) MUST be in your carry on bags. A wheeled duffle or suitcase that fits through a standard airport screener (all carry on bags are put through an xray screener) helps when bringing it onboard. Depending on what time you get onboard you may be carrying your stuff around until cabins are ready. Last week our cabins on the Magic were not open until 3 pm and we boarded at noon. We had swim stuff with us so spent the afternoon by the empty adult pool have a drink or two!

Note: any booze brought onboard can only be consumed in your own cabin. They can't be consumed in public. If you want to bring your bottle of wine to the dining room they will charge you a corking fee. The fee is not for the physical act of opening the bottle, but for bringing a non Disney purchased bottle to dinner. You will still be charged if you open the bottle yourself.

We just got back from our 47th DCL and I brought on a bottle of wine and have brough something onboard for most of those cruises.

As far as booze being sold onboard....they have a drink of the day which comes out to $6.13 with auto gratuity. They have beer specials and sometimes two for one drinks by the pool and in some lounges. Several happy hours were listed in the cruise activities as well. They have a full selection of wines and spirits and will make just about any drink you want.

Tell your friend you WON the debate!

As noted, totally untrue.

In the past you were allowed to bring onboard whatever beverages you wished, any amount. That applied to alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Then DCL limited what could be brought aboard to only beer and wine (limited amount), and non-alcoholic (unlimited).

There are several bars/lounges onboard the ships, serving all manner of beverages.

23 Disney cruises since 2000...plenty of alcohol! :teeth: With no casino, they have to make money somewhere. ;)
But I have to say their prices still are pretty reasonable. Royal is much more expensive for table wine and the drink of a day is a good deal.

Wow I never realized how experienced you are here. That’s cool how you were on the Maiden.

It's amazing to me that we were too! Our kids were 14, 13, 10 and went through the various kids clubs over the years.....now they all have kids of their own and we have brought our grandkids onboard. Got another generation hooked on DCL.
