Sorry, I should have been clear that that perk is for Concierge guests. What is this "free 24-hour internet" perk people are mentioning here?
TIA
And specifically for verandah concierge guests. Concierge guests in suites get length-of-cruise internet (tier dependent on what type of suite).Sorry, I should have been clear that that perk is for Concierge guests.
Thank you for your post. Does iMessage work such that you can text with other people on Apple phones - but only text no photos? Or do photos also go through in iMessage? Can you clarify if you need to have purchased Wi-Fi access on the ship or not with this? Sorry, but I am a bit of a novice. We also have T-mobile’s plan that includes international. I assume that would work in ports. Not specifically what you asked, but last year I had planned to get a day or 2 of internet to be able to check in with DH and DS who were not on cruise. ( my kids had different spring breaks so it was only me and younger DS on cruise) BUT iMessage worked (similarly to how iMessage still works on airplane free WiFI) so I never bothered. Both my son and I each read 2 novels![]()
Yes you can use iMessage using the free DCL wifi connection, but just text, no photos/videos. But, on occasion on iPhones you will get disconnected from the icloud service and need to log back in, which you can't do without purchasing an internet plan (although I've heard that sometimes guest services will help you do this with no charge). WhatsApp also works the same - texts but no photo/video and it is usually more reliable than iMessage and you can text everyone (not just those with an iPhone) .Thank you for your post. The iMessage works only for texts with other iPhones, no photos. I did not purchase WiFi on the ship. I also considered using my carrier’s international day pass when in port ( I have AT&T and it is $12/day -you only pay on days you connect) But since I was able to text my husband for free while on the ship, I didn’t bother. I am curious as to whether AT&T and in your case T-mobile have cell service on Castaway Cay and/or Lookout.Thank you for your post. We got back over a week ago from the Disney Treasure cruise. I bought the internet for 1 day including streaming was i believe $49, then a pop up appeared and said if I want 6 more days I could pay $169 so I did. It is cheaper if you just want emails and texting. It still was not the best internet. Be very careful with your phone service, it could cost you a fortune if you use your phone.Approximately how much for one week on one device. Not the least expensive, but the second plan. I have T-mobile and usually get fairly decent service on Castaway. Service at Lookout was spotty at best the 3 times we've been.I am curious as to whether AT&T and in your case T-mobile have cell service on Castaway Cay and/or Lookout.
We have always received a text from T-Mo when the ship is moving into areas not covered by them, if we aren't already in airplane mode. But yeah, always double check to ensure airplane mode is on and celluar data is off. There shouldn't be any charges if that is set properly. Accidents happen though.I have T Mobile and just received a bill for the time I was on the cruise, I have not opened the online bill yet but the bill was over $300. My bill is always $165. This added amount is from the cruise and I did not even make any calls and I purchased the wifi from the ship. Be very careful just don’t think you might be fine, I thought I was but I guess I was not.
We had an issue in Jamaica where we had switched all of our phones into airplane mode, but when my son had shut down his phone and turned it back on, it went out of airplane mode on its own causing us to have to pay the daily fee for that day. We realized it immediately because we were sitting next to him and his phone buzzed with a gazillion missed snaps and texts, but the fee was already charged.I have T Mobile and just received a bill for the time I was on the cruise, I have not opened the online bill yet but the bill was over $300.
