Hello! I don't know anything about the mummy ride. We are NOT roller coaster type people, but LOVE the movies of The Mummy and would love to experience the ride. We usually go on all the rides at Universal (simulator-type rides, etc)

BUT>>>> can you answer these questions and tell us all about the ride??

1. Does this ride have any drops? How high?

2. How fast does it go?

3. Upside down?

4. Is it a simulator type ride?

5. How scary is it compared to Splash Mountain in MK? (I can't take that drop at the end - oh boy!)

6. How much scarier is it than Thunder Mountain Railroad- we can take that one.

Thanks alot! :wave2:

1) Multiple of varying heights. The biggest one is only about 25 ft, though.

2)Top speed 40-42 mph

3)No

4)It's a rollercoaster.

5)MUCH scarier than Splash Mountain. I'd say at least 5x scarier: it's in the dark, with several banked curves, a high-speed launch, and a backwards drop, not to mention all the show effects...

6)See question 5

Thanks for the info.....
    :( :(
So it's SCARIER than Splash Mountain???? Woh- with that 50 foot almost vertical drop w/ no seat restraints?

25 feet drop - that's only twice the height of pirates of caribbean, right???
how much does yr stomach drop?
does it drop 25 feet backwards too?

what type of visual effects?? pls. describe!

It's a different kind of scary. The restraints come down tightly to you (flush with your torso) so you won't be going anywhere.

Splash Mountain's drop is at a 45 degree angle. The biggest drop on Mummy is 50 degrees, which makes it a steeper/scarier drop. It's probably easier to compare to Space Mountain, since that is also an indoor coaster in the dark. As for POTC, I don't know how big their drop is, but Mummy's = bigger. Backwards, you fall about 12 feet.

There's really no stomach drop, but it varies per person I would guess...

Visual effects:
1st scene: mummified/dead bodies all over the place. A shadow that can't be described. A shaking mummified guy that is still alive, only to be killed by the mummy (who breaks out of his coffin). The mummy, Imhotep, sucks out the other guy's soul, so it's not gory.

2nd scene: Imhotep appears on a screen and offers you riches if you serve him (bright light & treasure) or death if you refuse (darkness and 6 warrior mummies appear from nowhere, poised to attack from the side). Plus a falling wall.

3rd scene: flesh eating scarabs swarm around your railcar.

4th scene: Imhotep appears again and mocks you. You then launch quickly into his mouth and he "swallows you".

5th scene: high speed rollercoaster in total darkness. Warrior mummies/ghouls appear and disappear, trying to attack your railcar.

6th scene: Imhotep kills another person (non-gory soul removal), breaks glass & makes the "shards" (water) hit you. He mocks you, then sets the roof on fire.

7th scene: Imhotep tries to catch you again in the same manner of the previous ghouls. A giant symbol appears with a bright light. Brendan Fraser welcomes you back on a screen, then gets attacked by a mummy.

WOW that sounds really cool!!! I can't wait to ride it. My DD 13yo, and myself are huge mummy fans! We'll be riding in 9 days!

:earseek:

What are the restraints like on this ride?

Okay, now this is just my opinion, but I didn't find the Mummy ride to be nearly as scary as the others are making it out to be. I think Splash Mt. is a lot worse (although I also love Splash Mt.) because of the drop. I didn't think the Mummy's drop was even half as bad as that. And yeah, it was only a little worse than the drop on Pirates of the Caribbean. I personally think the effects and scenery in the Mummy are really cool, but as far as the roller coaster, I would say it is more like Big Thunder Mt. at WDW, and not nearly as long. Again, this is just my opinion.

Hi ! I read that whole link (from above post) and it was great, but
we have to put all of our money, expensive digital camera, etc.
in a locker??

That is scarier than the ride itself!

Also, when it says spiraling down the coaster, can u see how high u are??

everyone's describing it as a thunder mountain railroad in the dark.....is that true?...
my only concern on coasters is the presence of a barrel roll...
i can do straight up and down loops, but a barrel roll will put me out of commission for a full day..(like on rock and roller coaster, which i can't do)...

so is there anything like that?...or is it just a hyped up thunder mountain?

No. It's nothing like Thunder Mountain. It's more on the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster side of the spectrum. It feels like a big, legitimate steel coaster rather than the kiddie coaster feel Thunder Mountain has. The drops aren't really anything bad. There's only 2. They're both over before you know it. There are also no inversions. It's more of a "let's see how fast we can get around all these turns" coaster than a "drops'o'plenty" coaster. It's an indoor coaster, and once you see the building it's housed in you shouldn't be worried about the height of the drops. They couldn't add a tall one even if they wanted to.

Is the ride scary? The effects might be; the physical aspect of it isn't. No inversions. No drops over 25 feet. Watch out for that launch though....

For those of you that actually find Splash Mountain scary, go to IOA, ride Ripsaw Falls, and then you'll be able to sleep through Splash Mountain's drop. You ain't seen nothing yet. This is coming from a person who found Splash Mountain scary when he was a kid. Ripsaw makes it boring by comparison.

I wouldn't compare it to Thundermountain at all. Mummy is a very smooth ride. It is most like Space Mountain but smoother with a launch like RnR.

I wouldn't compare the launch to RnRC's. That thing is way too intense. It's more like Hulk's, especially being uphill and all. The track itself can't really be compared to any of Disney's coasters to tell you the truth. Disney's only "real" coaster is RnRC, and that is more drops and less turns. Plus it slows down greatly after the launch. Mummy doesn't rely on drops and it never slows down. Space also feels more like a wooden coaster than a steel coaster. That's why it can't really be compared to any of Disney's.

This photo of the track should give everyone an idea of what I mean by "real" roller coaster when compared to Disney's.

Oh, yeah, I agree, Ripsaw Falls is sooo much better than Splash Mt. I love drops so it's my kind of ride. I also like the Jurassic Park River Adventure ride. It's all about the drops for me. Maybe that is why I don't find the Mummy to be as wild as everyone else. Don't get me wrong, I liked it. It was fun. I especially liked being in the dark and not knowing what would be next, but I am all about thrills on roller coasters. I need big drops. It's good for those of you who are the opposite of me and hate the drops such as my own DH!

Splashmountain, Ripsaw, and Jurassic Park all scare me because of the straight drop. I still love them! Mummy's drop isn't straight down but banks sharply to the right (?). It doesn't scare me because it doesn't look straight down. (I'm referring to the drop where your picture is taken.)

It is a smooth, smooth roller coaster track. Nothing like Thundermountian.

The drop right after the launch banks to the right. The photo-op drop banks to the left.

Pirates of the Caribbean has a drop???? Did they redo it? I don't remember a drop.

Thanks, JT3000. You are correct. You'd think I could remember after riding ROTM around 40 times.

The first drop doesn't scare me at all. For some reason it doesn't seem as intense as the photo op drop. The photo op drop is pretty darn sharp but because it banks, it doesn't bother me like SplashMountain or Dudley.

Yes, Disneyworld PoC has a drop and has always had one. It is right when you leave the cave that says "Dead men tell no tales" in the first part of the ride.

Although PoC at Disneyland ride has a whole first scene in the bayou before the cave scene, the drop is the same at both parks after the cave scene. Here is a link that shows the drop at Disneyland: http://www.doombuggies.com/tnt/secrets2.htm

:Pinkbounc :hyper: That link is awesome! Thank you!
It shows the Pirates of Carib drop i was talking about. How big is it? I was told it is 14 feet. I can take that, but i don't know if i can go higher??

banks to the right on mummy- u mean it feels like u will fall out it's so sharp?
have any pictures or video of it???

thanks!

It's a pretty big drop and higher than PoC. By banking, I mean you see this big drop but then you turn off to the side so you don't feel like you are going straight down like on SplashMountain. This makes it less scary to me. I didn't feel like I was going to fall out. plus those lapbars are very secure.

I don't know of any pictures as cameras are forbidden on the ride. There may be some pictures out there somewhere though. Many have been removed after letters from universal legal department.
