Crew quarters and guest areas

Hi I am new on the boards but I have a question that I couldnt see anyone else asking.

I am looking to book a cruise with family and my grandparents will be with us. We want a room that is not going to be around alot of activity at odd hours. I am curious, Does anyone know where the crew quarters are located? or if there is a crew deck on the ship. We were worried about being able to hear noises from crew maybe partying after a long day of working because they only get time to themselves at times like midnight-6am when there is not much else going on.
Looking at the deck plans I have found it never mentions anything about anything that is crew associated, however it looks like there are available staterooms on almost every deck so I was curious as to where crew quarters and or crew hang out spots are and how close they could be to guest staterooms.

I hope this makes sense and is not to crazy of a question. I have looked around and never seen any discussion on this. Thanks again

Most of the crew's quarters are located on deck 1, and the whole of the deck BELOW deck 1.

There are service areas on most of the other decks, mainly hidden stairs and storage areas etc.

I don't think I've ever seen much in the way of complaints about noise coming from any of these areas - even with the few cabins that are located on deck 1.

I can't imagine there is much partying going on by the crew onboard - they work hard practically every minute of the day, and very long shifts at that - I'm sure they are glad to get to bed at night !

Thank you for the fast reply.

I know what you mean LOL I didnt mean partying so much just as then wandering and or getting in late and leaving early and being able to hear them. I figured that it wouldnt be that big a deal I was just mainly curious about it also not so much concerned.

Thanks again

the crew has plently of time to have parties and they do. they have a bar which they have very cheap liquor for the crew.theres a law where they can only work so many hours a week im thinking its 94 but not positive.so if it is 94 thats about 13 and a half hour a day on average that they can work. they have no commute time. they work hard but they got time to do some partying.

On the Magic and Wonder there is a crew pool and bar area all the way forward. You can see if you are on Deck 10 looking out over the bow. We have seen some parties out there late at night but nothing very noisy.

For a very eye-opening look at crew life, you have to read the book Cruise Confidential. Someone here recommended it and it's great reading!

It will surprise you in some aspects (the partying, etc) and also make you very appreciative as you realize just how grueling their jobs can be....

Hi Colleen!! :wave2: Thanks for that! Just ordered Cruise Confidential and another book by a captain about working on a cruise ship... Can't wait to read them! :cool1:

HI!! You will enjoy it!! :) Wish we lived closer or I'd just give it to you! I ordered one written by a captain too but haven't gotten time to read it yet - I wonder if it is the same one. Cruise Confidential is a lot of fun! :)

The crew areas are below deck one. We have been on numerous Disney cruises and noise coming from the crew is a non issue.

We had brunch reservations at Palos one day. We were suppose to go to Castaway Cay that day but the winds were too high so they flipped the days. When we got to Palos the server asked us to forgive her that she is a little slow. She said the staff had wine and cheese last night and had more wine than cheese! :rotfl2: Yes they have time to party but I also saw that they plan it so it doesnt interfere with their work. This time, the weather caught them by surprise! She was great and I saw no difference in the excellent service, but that just cracked me up and made me feel better that they do have SOME time to have fun. They need it with all the work they do!

They basically roll up the sidewalks on Disney after 10pm. And other that a few loud and unsupervised children at 6 am, we never heard a thing at odd hours from crew of passengers.

When the crew parties on board the Wonder (which they do about once a week at some organized event or another) It seems to be usually held in that area forward of Wavebands and generally starts aboout 1AM... We usually close down Wavebands (2AM and quietly wall walk back to our room) :rotfl2: Sitting in the corner seats at the bar and have been quite amused to see all of our favorites dressed to the nine's for disco night, etc. :thumbsup2

They also have a crew bar and pool, when they have been really, really good (which in my opinion is all of the time) they will get a late night ashore in Nassau (we had all aboard at 2AM a couple of weeks ago as a reward for the crew).

They are very conscious and considerate of the guest...you will not be bothered by anything they do when in room or socializing...:cool1:

Much more likely that us night owls will be heard walking by the room in the wee hours (took me four cruises to realize thay have breakfast on board!):rotfl:
