Costco- discount on membership?

Are there ever any discounts on Costco memberships? Our nearest one is 45 minutes away, so I wouldn't shop there often enough to justify a full price membership, but I would like to go occasionally! I always see such good deals posted here and other places!

I don't remember seeing any. Costco also offers Costco Online. Maybe browse around the website to see if there is anything on there that you are interested in purchasing that's advertised at a price you won't find elsewhere? The offerings from Costco online are different from what's in-store. The membership may be worth it to you for occasional in person savings and online savings. (Admittedly we rarely purchase from Costco online, our main Costco savings comes from our gas purchases.)

At one time, MyPoints offered a really good bonus for buying a gift membership. I did that for my son and was hoping it would come up again, but I've not seen it since. However, you might check if you have any rewards programs you belong to and see if that's a possibility; for instance, you might be able to exchange points for a Costco card and use that to get a new membership or something.

Membership deals come around about two three times per year. The easy way to know about them is to check the "deal" web sites such as Slickdeals or FatWallet.

Basically, you still pay for the membership, but you get coupons and freebies that end up taking the cost down to nothing (or extremely close to nothing). Usually includes something like a couple of free roast chickens, a coupon of $XX off $XX purchase coupons, etc.

They are usually offered by those wacky websites, like gropeon or living antisocially...

It is a good deal, but as I said they only come up a few times a year. I think you can create an "alert" of some kind to let you know when it shows up on Slickdeals. A Sam's Club deal has been around for the past week or two on Slickdeals. Can't say when a Costco one might appear.

If you know someone who belongs to CostCo, he or she could buy you a CostCo gift card or more than one gift card. That gift card entitles you to shop without needing a membership. (You might have to pay in cash.)

We used to do this for someone who would go too infrequently to warrant a membership.

If you get the Entertainment book they usually have a coupon for a free membership..at least they did in the past.
