cost of hair braiding?

We are going on the wonder in august and I was wondering what the cost of having my dd's hair braided. I think she would only want the front of her head. I believe it is called a headband. Thanks

My daughter had her braids done on CC...we think they cost $35ish....$40 with tip.....others in our group had them done in Nassau.....they paid $95!!!! It was the same look just smaller braids....so be careful.......ask questions....

We paid $20 for the headband aboard the Wonder in January plus tip. My daughter got it the first day and enjoyed for almost 2 weeks.

I saw many girls with way too many of them, and it cost the parents a fortune. Plus, the smaller they are, the more painful they are, and the longer your DD has to sit there.

I said 8 braids for my DD - 4 on each side. She was only 4, so it was plenty. She loved them, and I didn't spend too much.

Great advice. I wish I had known this before we cruised. My DD 8 had them done at CC the last day. The woman put in the smallest braids and my dd was crying, but she had to finish or it would have looked crazy. Two other little girls (that I saw) were also crying. When we got home I left them in for 1 week for school. I think we pulled half her hair out when we took them out even with all the conditioner. Needless to say we'll be skipping the braids in October and saving $60 (for just the headband)!

I'll also add the tip I learned on this board. To get them out painlessly, buy a cheap conditioner, like Suave. When you're ready to get them out, pour them on the braids, and let the conditioner soak into the braids. Let them sit for a few minutes, and the braids will literally slide out painlessly. Then wash! Your DD's hair will be silky smooth!

The biggest cost of all is a sunburned head. Don't forget the sunscreen. Silly me was worried about my daughter and forgot myself!

a friend's dd had her hair braided on the ship or CC (not sure) and it was very clean. She went walking in Nassau and people were braiding hair and using combs that were cleaned in-between guests. Stick with Disney.

This cost us $16 plus tip on the ship. I wish I had said that we wanted bigger braids. These little ones looked nice but poor DD cried the whole time...but typical female didn't want the woman to stop either!

I agree on the "not making them too small" advice.. I had mine done (myself) in Jamaica and at the resort the girl didn't do them right (cost $100!)- it was messy, the bands and beads she put in them were sticking up everywhere and/or coming loose/etc.-- and then when I had them done again outside the Falls at Ocho Rios... to get them done better-- they charged by braid and made them SO TINY. I have thick hair (although it was short then) and it took SO MANY BRAIDS. Ended up costing way more than she'd "quoted" based on how many braids she "estimated" it would be- and it actually hurt to sleep on any part of the braids after that. I also took it out long before I could have (iow: it would have lasted much longer) only because I noticed tiny hairs were breaking off because it was such tiny braids and so TIGHT! I was going to end up with half my head only a half inch long or shorter- so I took it out. LOL
I saw others at the resort later that went somewhere else that day and got their hair braided elsewhere- it was just as nice but bigger braids and not quite so tight- it was lovely and I wished I'd gotten it done where they did. LOL

I've learned my lesson. I may or may not get my hair braided on this trip but I'm sure my girls will want to.. and while they are good at sitting for their hair to be fixed.. my youngest doesn't have that much hair and I sure don't want any pulled out! LOL My oldest has super thick hair like me- so it would cost a fortune if they did teensy braids. I will be discussing that with them before doing it -and sounds like it's probably best to do it on board.


Do you book that once you get onboard or do you have to just show up and stand in line forever?

These prices do not sound bad. 2 years ago on carnival it was much more and the girls really did not know what they were doing.
Last year in disney, I saw them doing the hair wrapping. I asked at a few of those locations about braiding. They all told me that next year, they were starting that. Well now next year is here. I wonder if they started????

I liked waiting until CC to have the braids done.....WHY? During our cruise there were great opportunties for photos done by the crew.. It was nice to have our pictures made against white back grounds ...mother/child...family....thinking ahead to the holiday cards....if my daughter had braids in...that would have changed the whole look of the picture......this was the first cruise out of the 4 DCL cruises that we have done that white (lifestyle potraits?) background........I would definetly take better advantage of that next time......Why not...you're there......you're dressed up....and probably have the whole family together. Just something to keep in mind.

At WDW you can have them done at the beauty salons in the Deluxe resorts. IIRC, Contemporary, Beach Club the Dolphin and probaby the Grand but I don't know for sure. I would call in advance for an appointment, it was a pretty reasonable amount per braid.

As for your cruise, can you make an appointment at a salon at home before you sail? This is what we did for our disney trips and it worked out great as the price was cheaper and we didn't waste disney time on hair!! If you have a beauty school nearby they usually do a wonderful job at a very reasonable pice.

Unfortunately we have since moved and I haven't found a place here that does it. If I don't find one by Wednesday we will be signing up first thing after boarding the Wonder on SUNDAY - I can't beleive it!

I said this on another braiding thread. I can not tell you the number of times I have seen little girls getting there hair braided in Nassau. Mom standing there proudly joking with the little girl. Telling her how good her hair looks. Only to get back onboard and realize that formal night was coming up and didn't want that look in their pictures.

Hi again. I'm not sure when they open, but in your Navigator when you board there will be a notice where to go to make an appointment. Sign up quickly! The appointments go fast.

Most people also say go with Disney for this, rather than on one of the islands. If you have problems, they get loose, they fall out, etc., Disney will re-imburse you for it or fix it. Our experience was great last year on board. DD4 said it didn't hurt one bit, and boy does she yell at me when I do her hair!!!

Sorry, can't help you with the wraps, I don't know anything about it.

I just wanted to add that it did not hurt both my daughter and my neice. Both girls kept it in for about two weeks. My daughter is looking forward to having it done again when we go to Jamaica in June.

They do not do hair wraps... My dd loves getting her hair wrapped at WDW. She was sad that they didn't do it. I wish they would!
DD8 did not want braids at first, but then when she saw many of the other girls have them, then she finally wanted them. We got them done in CC too and I was glad we waited as well. I too wish I had been more informed about the number of braids you can request (she had the crown done) for the all the same reasons previously mentioned. She ended up really liking them but her real wish was the wrap.
