Cost Effective Transportation

A family member asked and I am unable to help as I am not familiar with traveling to Disneyland. What is the most cost effective way for 10 people with luggage to get from LAX to the Disneyland Hotel and back to the airport after the trip.

I read about cabs, but it seems between the mileage and traffic, and the need for 3 cabs, makes this very costly.

All shuttle services result in about $700 roundtrip. The shuttle services do not have vans large enough for 10 people, so we would have to book 2 shuttles.

Car rental is too high for a week visit, especially when they do not need it for the entire stay.
They looked at car rental from the airport and leaving it at the Enterprise there at Disneyland, and renting again to go back to LAX at the end of the trip - but it was about $600 to get several vehicles, plus gas and insurance.

The looked at flying into SNA (Anaheim), but the airfare was insane. More than double LAX.

Any suggestions for them to make this more cost effective?

I would look into Lyft XL or Uber XL since you'd only need 2 cars.

You can also look at other car rental options like Hertz which returns to the convention center Marriott or Alamo which is right behind California Adventure.

$700 sounds about right for 10 people unfortunately.

If you go with Lyft a car for 6 people one way should be about $200, and a car for 4 people should be like $150.

Did you check into flying into LGB? It's a little further than SNA but not by much. LAX is an inner circle of hell and twice as far.
Another thing that is possible though probably more trouble than it is worth is to take the train from Anaheim to LA and take the airport shuttle from the LA train station to LAX.

That will save you $ for sure but not sure about the relative time investment.

That's the pricing, you won't find anything cheaper.
Just have to work it into the cost of the vacation.

Just FYI - I just checked. Train from Anaheim to Union Station is $8.75, Flyaway bus to LAX is $9.75. X10 X2 gets you in at $370 total. Trains leave about once an hour. You would have to get to and from the train station but it's really close to DL. I'm paying $150 RT for my family of 5 to ride the Mears bus from the airport to WDW so it's pretty comparable. Only downside is the travel time - you are probably looking at 1.5 to 2 hours from the train station in Anaheim to LAX. An Uber will be 35-60 minutes.

Try Midwilshuttle. The bus the 6 of us were on could easily have fit 10 people. Not sure about luggage though.
On a recent trip to Hawaii, we (4 of us) used an Uber XL for the first time with 4 Carry Ons and 2 larger duffle bag checkins. The van had difficulty fitting the bags and had to fold the rear seat to accommodate our luggage. The van then only had seats for 4.
