A little while back someone else had posted about this. That was the first time I had heard of it, and in the process of looking at some of the pics, I found an article written by someone who was really into body art (may have been a tatoo artist/body piercer, I can't remember for sure).
He warned readers of the dangers of this form of body piercing if the wrong type of jewelry/hooks is used, which happens frequently. He said these piercings are highly susceptible to permanent scarring, but many body piercing places will do it anyway just so they can have some impressive photos for their portfolio repetoire. Apparently the skin in this area of the body doesn't take well to surface piercing and it should only be done with the appropriate equipment made for puncturing the skin in that particular area. He said these corset piercings aren't intended to worn long term; some of the scar photos he had were disgusting!
