Do these work? Or do they feel slimey? We've tried Misty Mates and found they didn't work in the humidity. If you like them, which brand worked for you? I'm looking at Cool Downz, Icy Cools, or Cool Bandanas.

HELP! We're going in August with a 6 yo who can't handle the heat.

I have been known to carry an empty ziploc baggie into the parks and occasionally add ice to it from drink stations. It makes for a handy emergency neck cooler!

the cooling neck scarfs do work - but there's a problem - you want them during the hottest part of the day - but that is also when it rains - so if you wear a poncho it's kind of hard to wear and icky - we just bring a washcloth - dry - to wipe us down - and also a wet one to cool us off - and they can get moldy very quickly if you don't rinse and dry in full open air -but if you take care of them - and you're not wearing stuffy clothing - they do actually cool you down

I did not like them. It was cool for about a minute and after that it felt like a wet cloth around the neck and was more annoying.

You might want to try this: bring with you some of the small, snack size sandwich bags. When your DD starts feeling the heat, go to the first CS place or kiosk you see and ask for a glass of ice water. FInd a shady spot, drink the water, and put the ice into one of the sandwich bags. Put the sandwich bag on the back of her neck or her wrists, and that should cool her down nicely.

I am in the cooking neck wraps ROCK!!!! camp. I felt like mine made the hugest difference in my comfort level on my early September trips. I'd soak it in cold water briefly in the morning before leaving my room, and then dunk it in ice later in the day when it was drying out a bit.
I got mine from a gal who hand made them in Disney fabrics.

dh & a friend were both overweight at the time & loved the bandana style ones. I wasn't a fan & honestly, I cann't remember why I didn't like them. Sorry. I was about average weight then, maybe I didn't get over heated as much as them.

I have used Cool Downz and loved them both at Disney and our local August NASCAR race. Bringing a baggie to fill with ice tosoak them is the way to go-they aren't very effective just run under water, and you really need to let them soak up good, so as a PP noted, start soaking them just as soon as you start to feel hot, not when you get to the point of "I can't stand this another second".

We tried the cooling neck wraps but they were not a success. In the humidity, they just became a bag of slime attached to our necks. Yuck. Plus I got a rash from mine, but I have sensitive skin.
I tried bringing some instant ice packs on our last trip, and that worked OK. They don't stay cold all that long, but they do help for a little while.
Someone on another thread suggested using hand sanitizer, which is basically alcohol in a gel, to wipe down your neck and wrists. The alcohol evaporates quickly and cools you down. Just remember that it also takes off your sunscreen.
The best bet is to return to your resort for the hottest part of the day - say noon-4pm. Either swim or take a rest in the cool a/c room. Then head out for dinner and evening attractions. Also, keep everyone hydrated.

I have used them at boy scout camp and I thought they were wonderful. We used as Disney some but for some reason we didn't use them as much there.

A couple of years ago I got the ones from Walmart for a couple of dollars each. Our got slimy and nasty. I ended up throwing them away. I won't be trying them again.

I would go with the ice in a baggie, or better yet, take a washcloth to put in the baggie as well and use that.

My husband & I have used them in the past & we both agree that they make a big difference. Did not get an 'slimy' feeling from them. We got ours at Walmart.
