People have been commenting that all the cookie threads are useless without recipes, so here we go! What’s your all time favorite holiday cookie recipe?
Here’s two of mine:

Black Forest cookies

2 cups of flour
⅔ cups cocoa powder (dark)
½ tsp salt
2 sticks unsalted butter, softened to room temperature.
1 ⅓ cups sugar
2 large egg yolks
4 tbsp milk.
2 tsp vanilla extract.

Combine flour, cocoa, and salt in bowl. Set aside.

Beat butter and sugar until light, 2 minutes. Add egg yolks, milk and vanilla. Reduce speed to low and beat in flour mixture until just combined. Refrigerate.

Roll into a ball about the size of a walnut. Using a spoon, make an indent in the cookie and fill with sour cherry jam.

Heat oven to 350*.
Bake for around 12 minutes. Cookies are very soft and fudge-y.

When they are cool drizzle them with melted white chocolate.

Eggnog cookies

3/4 cups butter
1 and 1/4 cups sugar
2egg yolks
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 and 1/2 cups all purpose flour
Pinch salt
1 tbsp + 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tbsp cinnamon
1 tbsp + 1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 cup eggnog
1tsp rum extract or rum

Preheat oven to 350*
Beat together butter and sugar.
Add egg yolks and vanilla.
Add flour, salt and baking powder and spices. Mix until just combined.
Add eggnog.

Roll into balls and press with cookie press, or freeze in a “log” shape and cut as disks.
Bake for 10-12 minutes
Decorate with rum glaze or colored sugar.

I make these every year for our cookie exchange.

Jam Thumbprint Cookies

3/4 pound (3 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water, for egg wash
7 ounces sweetened flaked coconut
Raspberry and/or apricot jam

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

In an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream together the butter and sugar until they are just combined and then add the vanilla. Separately, sift together the flour and salt. With the mixer on low speed, add the flour mixture to the creamed butter and sugar. Mix until the dough starts to come together. Dump on a floured board and roll together into a flat disk. Wrap in plastic and chill for 30 minutes.

Roll the dough into 1 1/4-inch balls. (If you have a scale they should each weigh 1 ounce.) Dip each ball into the egg wash and then roll it in coconut. Place the balls on an ungreased cookie sheet (I use parchment paper because the bottoms tend to burn otherwise) and press a light indentation into the top of each with your finger. Drop 1/4 teaspoon of jam into each indentation. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the coconut is a golden brown. Cool and serve.

Yum!

I happened across these, made them and EVERYONE GOBBLED them down! I normally struggle with texture on my Choc Chip but these came out perfect. EDITED TO ADD: We made them this year for the holidays and they are being eaten faster than all the others! They just hit right. 🍪

Many, many more Cake Mix cookie recipes and ideas here on this thread:

I tried your recipe. They are very good. I may try it someday with a lemon cake mix.
I'm glad you liked them! Did you dust them with a little more powdered sugar afterwards? I've never tried it with a lemon mix, but I like how you think! :p

I’ve seen these mentioned multiple times in Xmas cookie threads. I made them as a last minute addition yesterday. I had one and didn’t really understand the hype. However, every time I passed by my cookie tray last night, I grabbed one to eat. Lol. Guess I liked them.

They were very tasty and I love that they were so easy and you can switch up the cake mix. Thinking of trying red velvet for Valentines. Thanks for sharing.

I am going to share my husband’s favorite cookie. The recipe is from an old Better Homes and Garden cookbook, but I found the recipe online. I have made them for years, but almost skipped them this year because last year they spread too much and my first attempt this year didn’t spread at all, too dry. They involve multiple bars of white chocolate so it’s disappointing when they don’t turn out. Dh was sad to not have them this year, so I gave it a second try. Thankfully, they came out perfect. They are so good and people seem to really enjoy them.

Yes I did. I also considered dusting them with some crushed peppermint. Maybe next time.
