Coffeemakers

Do you drink coffee black or with milk/cream? The problem with me and my spouse is we drink coffee black, so the quality of the coffee matters a lot, since we’re rawdogging it. Like another commenter said, it’s an addiction and I wish I didn’t have it! A curse, because it def becomes a “thing” we have to deal with on vacation in places that don’t have much of a brewed coffee scene. Some metaphorical “baggage” I wish I wasn’t lugging around.
Exactly. It's not like I'm some sort of connoisseur. I drink a wide variety of different types of coffee I've had coffee that people claim is the best in the world and I've had other coffee like the nasty kind out of a vending machine. I drink my coffee black so there's nothing else in it that's going to mask of the taste or improve it. I would just prefer to not drink nasty coffee while I'm on the ship. I guess I can go to the Enchanted Café and see if they sell straight black coffee.

What’s your advice to the coffee addicts on DCL?
The free or Cove. We are 100% addicts and have no problem admitting it. The free is not great, but instant and other options to me are definitely not any better and for sure not worth the trouble. I already spent $353,492 to get on the ship, my $100 coffee problem is the least of the worries. pirate:

Well, they'll make you an Americano. The cafes and bars other than Cove Cafe all have the same coffee menu. Cove Cafe has additional stuff.

Honestly, that's just too far away from my room that early in the morning before my wife gets up. 🤣🤣 I'm just gonna go get a cup of coffee in the morning and come back to the room and sit on the veranda until she gets up and gets ready. She doesn't drink coffee so it's not a problem for her.

So the Americano is just straight black coffee?

Not that I drink them, but I'm pretty sure an Americano is just a shot of espresso dumped into hot water.....or basically "watered down espresso" of some sort hahaha it doesn't appeal :)

Definitely get that it would make a difference if you drink it black - I can drink black coffee if I have to, but it's never my choice.

I have room service coffee brought in the morning with some other items. I drink it black and it’s good enough that it doesn’t ruin my cruise. Sometimes I’ll hit the cove later. I enjoy good coffee, but will also drink below average coffee too.

Yeah, basically. It's espresso with water.

But what do you think regular coffee is? It's pretty much the same thing.

This thread is cracking me up 😄 No judgment, I say do what brings you joy, I just cannot imagine putting so much effort into making my own morning coffee on vacation. (I don't want to do anything for myself on a cruise - I do all that crap at home every day)

I am of the perspective that I enjoy very good coffee, but I can also drink mediocre coffee and it will do the job. I drink all of the coffee on the ship. Pool deck coffee I mix with the hot cocoa - my little DIY mocha. I drink Cabanas/Marceline and MDR coffee as usual (it's fine), and get Cove coffee if I'm feeling like I want a treat.
I agree, I'll drink mediocre coffee to get my fix. However, in my opinion, the pool deck coffee doesn't even reach the bar of mediocre. Since I'm hopelessly caffeine addicted, I'll continue to settle for some actually mediocre options (instant coffee when I can't go to the up charge places). I won't judge people who want to have a pleasurable coffee experience on vacation and are willing to put more effort into it.

Espresso beans are at least SLIGHTLY different, or at least roasted differently than drip coffee beans.....or at least that's how I understand it.....

and when I came back from Italy liking espresso, I was like "American coffee is just way watered down coffee! Gross!" haha

That's why I don't like it :)

Well, coffee beans are coffee beans.

Espresso tastes different because it's brewed at a higher concentration of coffee to water. So, if you water it down a bit in an americano, then it's not too different from regular coffee. You still get the more interesting espresso taste, but at a lower intensity.

But, you don't have to like it!

(And even better, do it like they do in New Zealand: add the espresso to the water instead of adding water to the espresso!)

which is funny for people making Americanos......cuz........that's defeating the purpose of making the espresso with the higher concentration HAHAHH

and wow New Zealand hahahaha

Well, sure. But my original post was in response to someone asking if they could get a regular coffee at Enchanted Sword Cafe. And the answer is, well, you can get an americano! My memory says that only Cove Cafe brews anything other than espresso and that's because they have all kinds of other fancy brewing methods that you can select. I don't think any of them will just make you a regular drip coffee.

I don’t drink coffee but there was a super hot barista at Hei Hei Cafe on Treasure during my cruise last week so my friend and I would walk by for the eye candy and she got a hot tea the first time we were there looking at the murals on the walls .
I know where my teens will be going to get their coffee drink when we sail in a few weeks. :ssst:

I love the mural!!

I will throw myself out, but I love these threads. :crutches: As someone with a coffee problem with no intent of seeking help, I find it very amusing that anyone looking down on DCL coffee considers Starbucks better. It is not coffee if you have ever had good coffee. Depending on the day is it equal to or worse than McDonalds. At least there they have it prepacked so you know how bad it will be rather than actually brewing it to determine how bad it will be today :) Find a local coffee shop and roaster get to know them and you will never look back.

I'm so very thankful to DCL for making terrible coffee. While I've never consumed it ...my DH does and his palate thinks ⭐bucks is good (I've been told it's...not?). So...we did the take the Via packets on board for a while to survive, supplemented by Palo until we went Concierge for our honeymoon. This was life changing (cue trumpets and birds singing 🎶). Now there is no resistance to booking the double the price concierge level because of the Magical Coffee Machine🤣🤣🤣. Deep down, I suspect the coffee isn't THAT much better but...whatever it takes, I say, not going to look a gift horse, er, coffee cup in the mouth-or something like that. :coffee:

at the risk of taking this discussion off the rails......is it a caffeine thing that people need? Cuz they have coke too? My friend who I go to Disney with gets a coffee sometimes, but also substitutes coke on some of our park days....

It's probably way harder to mess up a coke (well, it's easier, but the "bad" result is probably less than the bad result of a poor batch of coffee)
