In filling our my online cruise forms, I am presented with the question of whether I want my kids to have charging privileges or not?
Can anyone help me out with this? Will there be a NEED for them to have charging privileges?

My instinct is to say no charging privileges, but I might let the 11-yr old have them (maybe).

Thanks for the help!!

That's my fear. So there's not really a need for them to charge anything, is there?

I let my DS13 & DS15 have charging privileges. They were to tell us before they charged anything. The 13 year old charged an arcade card (with our permission) and DS15 used his for internet. Other than that, they really didn't seem to need to charge anything. As long as they asked us, we were okay with it. (We learned our lesson after DS13 had a field day in an arcade at a WDW resort and neglected to tell us! :scared1: )

I was faced with that same problem when doing my online check-in, the only way to do it online is to give them privileges. When we got on the ship, first stop was guest services to take it off. I was afraid they would lose their KTW cards and someone else would charge.

Disney apparently has more sense than I. :worship:

I had authorized charges on the 18 month old's card but it didn't come up on the final print out. The 5 yr old will still be able to go crazy in the arcade.:yay:

They sell candy and stuff at the movies. We never did go to the movies but that is what I have heard. Besides the arcade or stores and non-alcoholic specialty drinks there would not be much. My DD keeps asking me if she can do it this time and I said probably not.

Not your kids Lisa!!! :rotfl:

On one cruise DS lost his KTTW card and didn't tell us because he thought we'd be mad. Yeah, we were when our bill came with $1000 in arcade charges - another boy came and told us he saw "some kid" bragging about finding another key card. Key punch, please!

whoa! Did they make you pay that?

I there a way to put a cap on her particular card aithout putting a cap on mine. I would like to out $50.00 on there for her to do shopping.

Guess you have to decide how comfortable you are with your kids charging stuff or losing the card.

I wasn't even aware you could block charging on a card until AFTER our cruise.

DS's bill came to $8 ( for dry clearning of all things)

DD came to $0, didn't spend a dime.

My kids had no interest in the Arcade, felt the lemonade at the drink station was fine so didn't buy soda(we cruised before soda was included), and made a point of getting a plate full of hot (and free) french fries from Pluto's Doghouse to take to the movies.

Unless DCL has changed things in recent years, if you want your kids to NOT have charging privleges, you have to go to Guest Services AFTER you get onboard and request it. The form you fill out doesn't do anything (except perhaps protect you legally if you deny permission and your children charge a bunch of stuff before you get them deactivated).

On one of our last cruises, I was at Guest Services around 3:00 on the first day, and overheard one woman arguing because she filled out the paper work without giving permission, but by 3:00, her son had already racked up $100 in charges from the Arcade.

We let our 9 year old son keep and charge on his key card. We gave him a waterproof container with the cord to wear around his neck and when we came into the room each time, I would check to make sure it was still there.
The DCL containers are great, because he kept up with it and his arcade card. He was very responsible with it and it made him feel "grown up" to have his own card. He kept his receipts in the container and gave them to me later. I also went by guest services every couple of days to print out all of our charges.
There is no way I would have let him keep his card if we had not had the neck cord container. He would most likely have lost it!!

We took the charging off all 3 of our kid's cards - ages 13-8. Didn't want any surprises from them or anyone who might find their card.

Older 2 DDs (14 & 12) were given a budget - neither came close.

NO WAY TO THE YOU NGER TWO!

IN 08 they will be 8, 10, 14, 16. Still budget for older 2 and NO WAY for the younger!

my son is 11 yrs. old and we signed him up for charging and my niece is 12 yrs. and she is signed up too. we will monitor it, but my son is pretty smart, so it should not be a problem. he did it on royal caribbean last year @ 10 yrs. old and he only got a few VIRGIN pina coladas. :) he never spent time in the arcade though...

I filled out the online charging priv. page and checked 'no charging' next to each of my kids.....do you think I should still go to Guests Services to make sure? I'm only concerned about them losing their card, they're 5 & 8.

On our last cruise when we did it online we checked for no charging privileges and they did not have charging privileges when we got there. We did NOT have to also go take care of it at guest services.

We probably won't let her our kids have charging privileges on the next cruise either- even though the oldest will be 14. It all depends on the children and believe me, we have still YET to instill the value of money (much to our dismay) with our children and it not even being money but a card they charge on would just make it even worse. If they want to spend money, they are going to have to do it with our prior permission with us with them, I guess.

I will look into arcade cards if they can do those seperately where you pay for them and there is a limit. but we won't give them free reign to charge anything on their room keys. They'd probably lose them too! They didn't even step foot in the arcade last time- but being a longer cruise and more sea days, they might want to next time.

You buy the arcade cards in the arcade with your KTTW card in denominations of $10 and $20 (I think). In the afternoon there are scads of used cards on the floor sometimes.
