In getting out our artifical tree from storage, we discovered that throughout the year, our cat had a field day in using the tree as a litter box. It smells horrible. I tried cleaning the branches as best as I could with vinegar and water, and sprayed it with an enzyme cleaner. I'm letting it airdry overnight before we decorate, but I'm still a little hesitant if the tree is truly clean.

Anyone had this before? What to do? The tree is a year old...grrr...

I'm so sorry... but...
just throw it away. It will never be the same.
And just think how much worse the odor will be when the lights heat it up.
You're time is worth what you'll pay for a new tree...
I heard Kmart has them on major sale.

Yeah, I hate to say it but I'm gonna have to agree with her. That stink just doesn't come out, and even when you think it's gone if the area gets warmed up it comes back. Bleccch.

Hmm

1 Large sack

1 Brick

1 Canal or river

Sorted

buy new tree ;)

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

You and my dh are definitely on the same page...in fact I think he even suggested the same thing! I swear if it wasn't for my dd....that cat would be a goner. :rotfl:

I know...I'm probably going to need a new tree. I was just hoping there was a way to salvage it for just this year until I find a deal after Christmas.

I'm with the others. (Minus the cat killers, of course.;) ) That smell will always be there, and with all the great sales on right now, it's not worth it to keep it.

That's frustrating :(. But don't use the tree again unless your cat is an outside kitty. Otherwise, you'll likely just end up with pee on your presents when the cat starts peeing on the tree once it's up.

Yuck! There's nothing more disgusting than cat pee. :scared:

Time for a new tree! I might try to rescue it if the cat had a single accident on it, but not to that degree.

Dump the tree. Do you want your kids to remember Christmas smelling like gingerbread, evergreen, and eggnog, or do you want them thinking of Christmas everytime they pass a dirty litter box (mmm, mom, it smells like CHRISTMAS!!! ) Better not to cultivate a love of cat urine odor.

I'm just sayin' ;)

Throw it out. And thanks for the reminder of what a pain in the @$$ a cat can be. I was starting to feel like I should give in to my kids and get a new kitty but I think I'll stand strong. I miss my old fat boy, but not the smell.

Sorry your cat peed on the tree. Their pee is the WORST!!!

I'd have to say you will just have to throw it out. What if they decide to use it as a litter box again and it gets on gifts or ornaments? Not worth it.

Oh that is awful! Sadly - there is no chance to save it. Our old Tom got "nasty" late in his life and we are STILL throwing things out.

Ditch the tree and the cat. :thumbsup2

Then shop around as you will find a ton of great deals right now on trees. Michaels has some deals out there and I believe there are coupons you can print out on your computer for an additional % off.

Lowes and Home Depot had some good deals on treesm last week and I am sure they will still be on sale this week.

JoAnn's has all the ornaments at 50% off as well.

As for the cat. Go buy the new Elmo that is out this year. That little thing is adorable!!! ($59 at Target) Plus he is guaranteed NOT to ever pee on the tree or anything else for that matter. :)
