Cast Portal

OK...I keep reading about a "cast portal" - and I have no clue what it is. Can someone please enlighten me?

The cast portal is the Disney company employee website. There is a site for WDW, DL and other areas of the company. You can sign up to have access to the portal (from you home computer). You have to sign up at WDW (I guess you can do it from DL too). I know that TDS CMs can sign up still because my friend from VA was just there 2 weeks ago and signed up and got access while she was there. It's a great source of info, both as a CM and a visitor. On the portal you can check out CM discounts, park hours, job opennings, Co. D info, Property Control info, pin trading info. There is a guest tab that has all of the information that a guess would ask (i.e., handicap, birthday parties, tours, hours, parades, menus, resorts and the list goes on...).

Where at WDW exactly do we need to go to sign up to access the cast portal? (Disneystore CM)

I went to what's called a "Center of Excellence" (really just one branch of the company library) located in the Disney University building.

If you go into Disney University, there is a corridor immediately to your right as you enter, the first door is for the branch of Vista Credit Union, past that, is a second door for the Center of Excellence. Go in there, let the CM know that you'd like to sign up for the portal and he or she will assist you with getting access. It took about 10 minutes total to get signed up and online. Once that's done, you can access it from any computer.

Some stuff on the portal, however, is only available if you're on property -- I've noticed it tends to be things like the corporate phone book and employee locator.

We registered at the Team Disney building. There is a computer as you approach the Co. D store. A phone close by for the assistance you will/may need to get you logged in.

Aeryn: are you in the right section of the portal. I had a little trouble at the beginning because I was not in the WDW section. Go to the upper right hand corner and click the area called business section. There you can choose Disney Company, WDW, or DL. Choose WDW and in it you find loads of info. oh, I've fully explored the portal There are definitely a few areas that seem to be restricted however. I flip between the WDW side, the "Corporate" side and the DL side when I'm curious...

There is a *wealth* of information available on the WDW side in the Guest and Disney Difference tabs...

Aeryn, that's good. I was on the "yellow" page for the longest time before I figured out how to switch. I actually find the guest tab the most helpful, except when the eyes and ears come out. It is nice being able to get it the day it's released.

I was just in Florida and tried to sign up... they said that they couldn't find me in the database! They said that HR didn't update me properly on the SAP (? not sure if "SAP" is the right name, the company database), but when I called HR they said everything was OK! Did this happen to anyone else? Any suggestions?

Ian- you were in WDW RIGHT after you were made a permanent hire, correct? They may have just not had you in their system.

I am going to try for portal access in April.

I was made Part Time on Dec. 30th, or something like that! Maybe after I get on the database for the easy, one click DisneyStore.com discount working, I'll be able to get on the portal as well! Maybe they are both linked to the same database.

Hi, I am a new hire too. What is the "one click DisneyStore.com discount "? I was told you had to fax a copy of your CM Id card and they reimburse you afterwards. I haven't bought anything yet online, though I guess like everyone on this site, I've spent way more than my salary at the store.

When you register for DisneyStore.com there is an option to select to be a cast member. If you select this and enter in your information and it takes your information, your discount will be automatically taken off of all of your orders. I was told you have to wait three months after you get your photo ID for it to work.

Thanks! I had registered for Disneystore.com long before I was a Cast Member, but I went into it today and updated my Member Profile and checked the box that asked if I was a Cast Member, it then asked my SS Number and Birthdate and when I submitted it it came back and told me that I was confirmed as a Cast Member and my discount would be applied to all orders if I logged in. By the way my official start date as a permanent part-time (instead of casual) was 2/28/04 and I definately don't have my picture ID yet.

I also have the discount button on my ds.com account and do not have my real ID yet. I got my picture taken about 2 or 3 weeks ago. However, it did take a while before it became available.

I was finally able to get on DisneyStore.com as a Cast Member!!!! After many, many tries!!!! yay!!!! now, if i can just get the portal to work?!? Don't know about the 3 month thing, could just be an excuse that they use when they are backed up entering cast members into the database!

I just signed up on 3/8/04 while at the Team Disney location across from Pleasure Island. I used the machine they had right next to the Vista ATM machine. The machine wasn't working right, so I had to call on the phone right next to it, but they got me hooked up on it. But I have worked for the company since 1994, so I knew I would be in the system. It looks pretty neat though. They better keep these stores open is all I can say
