Canadians Traveling to the USA in 2025

Because in the old days (4 months ago) the usual response would be to deny entry and she would turn around and stay in Mexico and head back to Canada from there, as opposed to being allowed into the US solely to detain her. That was generally reserved for people found with narcotics or with outstanding arrest warrants or are caught in the U.S..
Excellent comment. I knew her visa had expired. I never thought of the fact that she would normally just be denied entry.

Such strange times we live in...

I haven't heard anything in the media about trouble at the Canada/US border.
Last Friday we were invited to use a condo in Orlando so we booked airfare out of Detroit and will stay at the Marriott Imperial Palms Villas from April 11-18. No Disney other than Blizzard Beach and Disney Springs. If we have any issues I will report back

I had to get searched because I always set off that stupid body scanner for reasons unbeknownst to me 🤪 They were like we can take you to a private room, I’m like just do what you need to do, I have nothing to hide.

Yep got offered the private. I said nope. Let’s get this over with. I muttered don’t get a ______ while he was touching me up. He went bright red.

I was told it has something to do with silk screening and occasionally extra labels and stuff on pants/underwear

Flew down to Orlando this past Friday from Toronto and home today.. was down for the Run Disney weekend.. security both here and Orlando was a breeze… customs going into the USA and coming back today at Pearson was the smoothest I have ever had… spent some time off of property Friday in Celebration (if you haven’t been I highly recommend going down there and walking around) didn’t do any parks so anytime that wasn’t run related we were at Disney springs or the pool.. zero issues with anything and like have said before we will not let politics dictate how or where we travel

In regards to These Canadians that are having issues and bad experiences in the US .. I feel like many are brought on by their own actions or comments…

Yep. When I got the pat down they asked if I wanted in private/public or a man/woman (I am female). I said "Out here is fine and I don't care who does it" LOL

Older woman here. I was selected for a pat down during a departure from my home airport a few years ago. I pointed to an attractive younger male who was working the security line and asked jokingly (maybe) if he could do it. The female agent chuckled and told me that while she might agree with me, the job must be performed by a female. We shared the laugh and within 20 seconds the check was over. Most are very efficient and impersonal.

I watched spectacularly low airfares appear over the past month, and had both of my Typhoon Lagoon-addicted grandsons been available, i would have proposed a May trip. I do try to watch my purchasing, etc, but at the same time, I would not sacrifice an opportunity to spend some family time in our favourite place unless it presented a clear danger. Life is too short.

I'm going to try that if it happens to me when going through security. :P

Stories of issues at crossing over blown. But I'd rather not support any US business. And as time passes it's getting even worse.

Be sure to thank those of us that refuse to spend money for the deals.

There is a reason it's spectacularly low.

You are welcome.

FWIW: the only reporting I've personally seen about folks having issues at the border, have been related to work visas. I've not seen a single story about a plain old tourist being harassed.
Same. Maybe it helps people change the narative for them to focus on being safe going to US and customs versus the REAL issue of focus on not wanting to spend a dime in the US. Maybe makes people feel ok with it. Who knows. It's an odd one.

Last I checked nothing changed and Canada is clearly in the cross hairs and actions taken are materially impacting our economy negatively for franky NO reason.

Also an older woman. Also frequently selected for a pat down but exclusively at Toronto Pearson. The cause for me is my underwire bra. I forget it's what I'm wearing until at the airport. Other international airports have no issue. I always figured the screening at Pearson was older or outdated. I'm always told to wait for a female security staff and then I deal with the full pat down with a description by the female officer of what's she's feeling up next. If you're stressed about travel or know you don't have the extra 10 mins to spare, then make better lingerie choices than me. I'm still puzzled why only in Toronto.

The Canadian gov't has issued warnings about crossing the border. Mostly about informing people that your electronics can be searched without reason and you can be denied entry based on what they may find. Apparently you have to give them your password so they can gain access to the devices. US border guards have sweeping powers to allow or deny access to their country.
This has been a known issue for 10+ years by Cdn professionals like accountants, investment brokers and lawyers. Professional associations have frequently warned members to bring an old phone without any client information. Just in the past 6 months or so has it made the headlines and now on the radar of Canadians. The security issues that prompted this measure existed well before last November.

I'll make sure to let the girls be free until after security next time I go through. :P

I frequent pearson but have never had an issue with my underwire.

I think my trigger of the scanner this time was I had the lululemon dupe pants from Costco that have a string on the waist. I’ve had the padding from my a Knix bra trigger it. I’ve had a necklace trigger it. Everytime I think I’ve not worn anything that will trigger ..I trigger it 🤪
