I have a couple of questions regarding this!
What type of food can you take in a carry on bag? I know they say no liquids but are there any other restrictions?I thought I heard a rumar about no cheece somewhere. I have looked on airtrans web site and could not find the answer anywhere. Were flying over lunch time out of a small airport and not sure will have time to eat. My kids our 4&7 and are going to be hungry. Can I take some lunchables(without drinks)on the plane or sandwiches. I also wanted to back some other snacks like granola bars and chips for snacks and don't want to put them in my check luggage. Anyone ever do this?

You cannot take any liquids, gels, or any other substance that can pour. THis includes, tooth paste, yogurt, drinks, pudding.

Most food is OK; although you will have to be careful with Lunchables as some have things like packaged sauces (pizza sauce, nacho cheese, salsa, etc.) or condiments (jelly, ketchup, etc.). Those items, packaged separately even in a Lunchable, likely would be considered liquids/gels. Similarly if you were to take a sandwich and put mayonnaise on the sandwich; no problem. If you take the same sandwich with a separate packet of mayonnaise to put it on later, the packet has to go in the 3-1-1 bag with the other liquids and gels.

Basically....no jelly packets but you can take a jelly sandwich. No mustard or mayo packets but again, you can have spread it already on the bread.

:)

In March we flew for the first time with Jetblue. I brought in my carry on granola bars, nibs, peanuts, gummy bears, ju-jubes. Never had a problem at all. I believe you can bring any outside food except for liquids. Now I bought McD's at the airport after security and didn't finish my drink in time and they never said anything when I took it on the plane, likely because it was bought behind security check point.

The 3-1-1 restrictions have nothing to do with what you can take on the plane; only what you can take through security. If they are selling gallon jugs of juice in the airport after security, you can buy it and take it on the plane. You just can't take even a small juice box (unless it's really small, like 3 oz or less) through the security checkpoint.

Each airline does have restrictions with regard to what you can carry on or check, but those are completely different from the liquid/gel (and other) restrictions at the security checkpoints.

Oooh good to know. If I can make pb and honey sandwhiches for my kids, I think I will. I was thinking they wouldn't allow it since it has gels on it, but if I can bring it on already made, yay!

As long as you are flying domestically the cheese shouldn't be an issue. That is an international restriction due to FDA regulations regarding importing of food products that may carry bacteria & such. It usually applies to meats, cheeses & produce.

You probably should consider a backup non-peanut food for them, too. Sometimes an allergic person will be on the aircraft and the flight will be declared peanut-free to protect that person. If that happens, no peanut products will be served, and passengers will be asked not to consume any personally-purchased peanut products during the flight.

Hopefully such an announcement would be made at the gate, but sometimes you first hear it from the FA's on the plane.

First off only Southwest does that. Second a PB & J sandwich would still be fine!!! It is the peanut dust they are worried about. I have NEVER EVER seen any other airline restrict peanut consumption.
