I bought a different color of Cover Girl lipstick today...it looks like the color I've worn for YEARS has been discontinued. The one I bought looked "close"...but when I put it on when I got home, it's very "orangey"..:scared: I have the receipt and the packaging. Will Target take it back? It wasn't a lot of money, being Cover Girl, but my DH was just laid off, and I really would prefer not to waste $4...

I've always considered buying new makeup colors as my fault if it doesn't work for me -- mea culpa. Never tried to return (or thought about trying).

Yes you can return 'used' cosmetics. They mark it as damaged and send it back to the mfg.

OT-I hope your dh will be able to find new employment soon.

I know that I was picking out lipstick and foundation at Kohl's last week and the girl told me I could bring it back if I didn't like it. My Avon lady(ha, yes I have one!!) has told me the same thing.

You want to return used lipstick??? What is Target supposed to do with it after they take it back? Obviously, they can't resell it - it's been on someone's mouth, for goodness sake! It's no different than returning a used toothbrush. Chalk it up to $4 wasted...

ETA: OK, I just read the other posts that say they will take it back. Wow - I never would have thought it or tried to do it myself. The things you learn on the dis...

Thanks!! He's been pounding the pavement daily...God willing, something will come up fast!

I normally wouldn't return it either, but with money being tight, and the fact that how do you know if it's going to work if you only have the color on the cardboard to go by...:confused3 I'll swallow my pride and try to return it...:goodvibes

I would think once the seal was broken, they wouldnt take it back. That's gross! But I'm sure if you raised hell, they would give you credit back.

I doubt they'd sell it...;) They probably would return it back to Cover Girl...

How many times do you suck up the $4 until you find the right color???? Just curious!

People, it is not gross and no customer should be left unhappy with a company's item IF the company takes pride in their customer service. They will write it up as damaged goods and replace your item.

You can return it and just about anything can be returned if you talk to the right manager.

BTW, my family calls me Refund Return Rebate Robin....

You may or may not be able to return it, I can't say for sure. Our store does, but we do have occasions where I have had to say no to that kind of return (but it's usually because of a pattern of a particular guest returning used cosmetics over, and over, and over). And if the seal is broken, no they wouldn't resell it, but processed as defective merchandise and whatever comes after that.

I don't know about Target but I can speak for Rite-Aide & CVC. You can return all cosmetics as long as you have a receipt. If I am going to try a new color or product I will purchase it at RA or CVS. Qvc will also take returns on make-up.

Yes you can. As long as you have the original packaging and receipt.

if there's a color that I LOVE and I'm really picky with cosmetics. I would save the label or remember the name or number.

And if your favorite color was discontinued, as the OP said hers was....?

Several years ago, one of the drugstores was actively advertising that you can return ANY cosmetic if you didn't like the shade.

If you read my OP, you would have known that I believe my favorite color was discontinued. Either that, or Target no longer carries it. There was no slot at all for it...(it happens to be Cover Girl Continuous Wear French Toast). I'm going to check Wal-Mart just in case.

For some reason, this was really bothering me...so I looked up my "fav" color on the Cover Girl website and it's still listed. Maybe it's not discontinued...but I know they aren't carrying it at Target. I'm definitely going to check Wal Mart and CVS....

It's hard to part with a color when it "works" for you!:thumbsup2

have you checked their website?

OPI discontinued a shade of nail polish in the stores, but I went to their website found it!

Whenever I'm trying new makeup I buy it at Rite Aid. I know it's a bit more expensive than Walmart but I know I can return it if it doesn't look right or I have a reaction. I have really sensitive skin and am sensitive to chemicals, so when I find a makeup I can wear, I stick with it. I get so frustrated when something I like is discontinued.

Yes, go to Rite Aid! They are great for taking back colors or makeups you weren't happy with. I'm not sure if other places have the same policy. I made the mistake of buying a foundation from Walgreen and I'm too embarrassed to see if they have the same policy as Rite Aid.
