Cake Bake Shop at the BoardWalk is now open

... Disney will help make sure it doesn't fail because it does no good to have an empty building.
Disney may or may not have any control over this restaurant’s operations. This was all done under a Covid-era negotiated lease so it could differ even from their normal leases.

Whoa! A little late to the party, but geez. I was hoping they would be open by my December trip. I was also trying to decide between Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs and CBS. I really thought CBS would win out, but not at $26 for a slice of cake. That’s a bit too high for me unfortunately. I have no doubt it would taste amazing, but a corn dog it is.

When you put an E at the end of salad you can charge way more.

Tuna sandwich - $5.99
Tuna Salade Sandwich - $24

Chicken salad sandwich - $6.99
Chicken Salade Sandwich - $26

And the Po' Boy at $34 isn't what you're eating it's what it's making you...a poor boy!

Sorry I had to! Honestly this place will probably do just fine. There's never a shortage of people at Disney willing to spend an inordinate amount of money on things that they can get and experience much cheaper elsewhere. I mean Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is just a hair salon. The poolside cabanas are just really well covered pool chairs. Savi's workshop is basically the Star Wars section at Target. But put it at Disney and imagine that old cartoon of shaking someone upside down so all their loose money falls out. Me personally I have never thought cakes and desserts from high end bakeries are ever worth it and I have a LOT of high end bakeries by me in NY. I can honestly say I get better, fresher, tastier desserts from the bakery section of my local supermarket. But I can also see there being people who either love what the CBS has to offer or...as many do with high priced items...pretend to like it to justify paying for the experience. To each their own. Our family when in Crescent lake either frequent Trattoria or eat at Epcot or just eat in room being DVC. Maybe we'll try it once? Eh...maybe. We'll see. It doesn't move the needle personally but hope it does for others. Also just looking at the sky high prices this place probably doesn't have to turn over clientele like a quick service to make a buck. I don't think there will be a line out the door but they probably don't need one in order to turn a profit. Just glad no more walls! Between Epcot and this it's just been constant walls. At least this looks better than the airport terminal next door called Communicore Hall!

I just looked at the Cake Bake Shop prices at her other Bake Shops and their prices are significantly less for the same items. But prices at Disney are typically typically higher than you would find outside resort so should be no surprise to us.

I’m also guessing the rent on the Boardwalk is significantly more expensive than Indiana, so there’s that too. I guess I cannot find it in me to be offended or sad or disappointed about the price point. I have never expected every offering on property to cater to my preferences or budget. I only started staying in Disney resorts as an adult holding the purse strings bc my family could never afford them growing up. It is what it is. There’s a lot of tourist baity heavily aesthetic restaurants here at home with high prices so I suppose I’m used to that too. If the concept doesn’t do well, I’m sure they’ll adjust to the market like the Edison did eventually.

I’m just excited to see a new restaurant outside of Disney Springs more than anything. As much as I enjoy it, I don’t always find time to go there, especially on shorter trips.

Shocked, as others, by the price. And I live in a touristy area but I've NEVER seen prices like that. $20 for a bowl of soup? Excuse me? But with a new grandchild, we'll pop in for $100 bucks for the photos I presume.:hyper2: But it will be a one and done.

I think the prices are fair for baked goods using fleur de sel and Callebaut chocolate. 🍫

See, I expected high-end baked goods that would likely be expensive. I did not expect $26 eggs and $32 grilled cheese. Paying a premium price for a premium product is one thing, but there is only so much you can do with certain things.

As Cake bake has a high mark up at boardwalk compared to other locations. Does anyone know the % or price different at Gideon's springs vs east end market

I don't mind splurging but $23 for an Egg sandwich?
$26 for yogurt & granola?
$26 for scrambled eggs?

There's just no way, that more than a mark up, that's highway robbery.
Is the staff well compensated atleast? Maybe that's why the prices are so high. That would make me feel better about paying the higher price. It can't be the rent because plenty of other tenants pay Disney rent without charging $8 for soda.

It’s $6.50 per cookie for preorders at East End (I’ve never actually shopped in that store, so not sure if walk-in prices are the same - we ordered 2 dozen for pick-up end of June for Sil’s bday), and Gideon’s in DS is around the same price. I’m not sure what cake costs at East End, but slices are about $10 in DS.

The desserts (including cake) at Disney's Signature Dining restaurants are in the $15-$17 range. CBS is pricing their desserts at a 40% premium above Disney's signature restaurants. I understand that the products are different, but that is still insane. I am a person who will drop $150 on myself to eat dinner at Topolino's and I LOVE just about any kind of cake, but even I have a limit and CBS has definitely exceeded it. There is other dessert/cafe/restaurant offerings available that are almost half the price. If this were the only option, then I can see where they could get away with $20+ for a slice of cake. Unfortunately, there are other dessert/cafe offerings on the property that are substantially cheaper. Even the "specialty cakes" that you can order at the restaurants are "only" $39 and that's for a whole cake.

I'll be staying at the BW in December and I was looking forward to this restaurant. Alas, I will simply enjoy the free aromas as I walk by.

The more I think about the CBS menu reveal, the more I’m surprised they decided to post it prior to opening day. The negative press it’s generating is pretty scathing overall. It’s practically gone viral on Disney related social media. Not a great way to start IMO.

Kind of strange how some people are vehemently defending $8 sodas and $18 PB&Js, almost like this place is some kind of a cult lol. I’m in no way a penny pinching Disney visitor. But this is just obscene. What could you possibly do to a kids PB&J to make it $18?! A SLICE of pie for $21?! I’ve eaten in gourmet restaurants in Paris that are much cheaper than this place. My mother’s French and I buy croissants regularly…$12 for ONE croissant? Insane. I spend lots of money at Disney and I get that there’s a Disney premium but this is beyond that. Not to mention the fact that Ive tried 2 of their cakes at a party once and they were very average. No better than any other cake at any other bakery. I’m assuming their other foods probably the same way. We won’t be eating here.

Maybe.

We have a very good bakery in our town. They use high-end ingredients. The whole-cake prices are within a few dollars of the single-slice prices at CBS.

Now, they are takeout, not sit-down, they don't also do the Tea Party Aesthetic, and both are going to goose prices. Put it in WDW, and that further gooses them. So, I sort of get the pastry/bakery prices.

But I am hard pressed to think of another burger anywhere at WDW that pushes $30. This one is $32. The burger at Tiffins is $28.

I suspect it will be successful with the Tradcore crowd. But it is definitely pushing the existing boundary.
