Go for the Bunn.
Well we got the Bunn yesterday, and I have to say I'm not really very happy. If you use "enough" coffee grounds, the filter basket overflows, getting grounds in the coffee. If you use less grounds, the coffee doesn't taste good -- no where near as good as from our old, leaky Braun.

What's the deal? Is there some magic I'm missing here? How do I make this work?

How much coffee are you putting in? I've had Bunns for years and never had a problem.

I have a coffee scoop I've used for pots of coffee for years.

In the Bunn:
3 scoops = coffee too weak (regular)
3 1/2 scoops = coffee too weak (regular)
4 scoops = grounds overflow (decaf)

I read something about Bunn coffee makers overflowing with decaf coffee grounds. Do you know anything about that?

Make sure the grind is not too fine. May be 'sealing' the filter, like a paste. If not a lot, does not have time to overflow, if enough, it has time to seal the filter off and then overflow. Just a thought. I have had that happen before, not with a Bunn, but a Krups.

Make sure your sprayhead is on tight.

Good grief Bicker at 4 scoops you're drinking mud. Does your coffee get up and walk away from you? :lmao:

I have a Bunn and use decaf but I only use 1 scoop for less than half a pot, I never make a full pot at once because it's only me drinking and it gets too old tasting before I go back for seconds.

What is a shame is that I just bought coffee, ground as we always have, to the right grind for our former, cone-type, coffee maker. Do these flat-bottomed coffee makers take a coarser grind?

Well, no. And 3 1/2 scoops is way too weak... it's like drinking dirty water.

Oh my... sounds more like tea, than coffee! Does that even turn the water brown? :)

Yes, it's nice and dark. I think there will be some trial and error figuring yours out. Im sure everybody doesn't have the same size scoop. Good luck figuring it out. I love my Bunn

If it's a new coffeemaker, it could simply be the water isn't calibrated to drip the right amount on this one. Sounds like it's coming out too fast and too much, so that when you have "enough" grounds, instead of slowly dripping as the grounds need time to saturate, there's too much water in the basket & it's overflowing. I'd return it for another one. There should be no reason for you to change the grind of the coffee you've always used.

Ack. I was really hoping that would not be the case. This was an Amazon.com purchase, so returning it for another one is a bit more work than just zipping back to the local mall. I'll definitely have to do that, if nothing else works.

The Bunn at work sometimes does that, and I can never understand why. Sometimes it overflows, and sometimes it's fine (with the same amount of coffee).

You need to use bunn coffee filters too. The others are too short.

I have a funny feeling Bunn includes cheap, off-brand filters in the (clearly factory-sealed) box. They do seem about a half centimeter shroter than the basket.

Exactly-everyone in my family owns a Bunn and we all had the same problem when using other coffee filters. I'm not sure what type of filters they are including now with the Bunn, but I would assume they would be Bunn's brand. :confused3

I pick up the filters in Target, it's the only place I've been able to find them. And I use 4 scoops as well. ;) Since using these filters, none of us had problems again. And I occasionally make 'unleaded' coffee at night. :)

Yep, I'm a 4-5 scoop kinda girl. Bunn filters are a must. Hope that solves it for you bicker.

Heading to Target for new filters tonight!

How about trying the 3 1/2 scoops with two of the filters you have now? Maybe that extra filter will slow down the drip enough for stronger coffee.

I think that would slow the flow too much and would cause more overflow.
