I'm not big on bringing outside stuff into a restaurant, so I wouldn't do it. Usually I just order a club soda with lemon or lime. It's really refreshing.

i wouldn't see an issue. And i'm sure a ton of people do it in orlando cause the water tastes horrible. Although i find dallas water to taste gritty and dirty. Just personal opinion.

Choice of beverage shouldn't be an issue.
If you're going to drink water because its your only choice. I wish there was a way to ask at work if we could have decaf tea. I drink it constantly because i don't want soda, and i'm horrible at drinking just water. That might make a lot of people happier, or maybe more angry....

I had the same problem, Dr told me to get off of caffeine. I like water but there are certain foods that I refuse to drink plain water with. There is absolutely nothing wrong with brining in a packet of Crystal Light.

My daughter just got her braces and she loves tea. Orthodontist said no, will stain her teeth, especially with the braces so this is an option for her.
I am not paying $4000.00 to get her teeth fixed and have her ruin them with ice tea. Anyone in a restaurant will just have to accept that.

On a side note, my son was diagnosed with celiacs when he was little, (thank goodness it was a miss diagnosis). Anyway, there is an Italian resaurant that we always go to, we took him in a box of rice pasta and asked them if they would mind using it for him, they said they would be more than happy to do it and they do it all the time for people with allergies. They would rather have people come in and spend money than to stay away because they felt like they couldn't eat there do to allergies or any medical reasons.

Me too. I vote tacky.

Do I think you should be thrown out for bringing in a packet? No. But I still don't think it's right.

TACKY!!!

Either just drink water or buck up and buy a drink. Otherwise stay home...

Sorry... I'm a budget minded gal too, but that just crosses the line...

But she isnt doing it for budget reasons, she is doing it for medical reasons. Big difference.

Tacky

We put it in water bottles at WDW but I would not put it into a water glass that I was served at the restuarant.

Even then... why not just drink water???

Maybe because some of us don't like plain water. She isn't bringing in a whole bottle of anything, she is bringing in a packet that is no bigger than a sweet N low packet. Geez,

It is a packet of flavoring, not a bottle of anything. Just like I bring sweet n low sometimes because I don't like splenda or Nutra sweet, I guess that is tacky too.

As a server I don't have a problem with it. I want my guest to be just as happy as they can be.

As a server, I've seen something similar. It didn't bother me too much but I still thought it was tacky and a food runner saw it and told pretty much everyone else working in the restaurant. Believe me, the stuff said about those people (a couple did it) wasn't good.

I don't know if they had a medical condition or not... you can't tell from the outside most of the time. But, you can tell when someone looks like they're just being cheap and this is one of those things.

My instinct tells me it's tacky, but I'd do it anyway. I just wouldn't make a production out of it.

I'm a server and don't care. Water is free. I think it is tacky to ask for a bunch of lemons and sweetener to make your own lemonade. Those aren't free AND we have lemonade!

I would never bring outside food into resturant

I got the impression the OP would be happy to buy a drink, if the restaurant served something she could have. I've never found a restaurant that carried diet caffeine-free Coke, or diet caffeine-free Mountain Dew. I would drink either of these. Or even caffeine-free iced tea. That's what we drink at home. That and Crystal Light.:thumbsup2 My choices at a restaurant, if I'm going to buy a drink, are usually Diet Coke (or Pepsi) - with caffeine, or Sprite (or the pepsi equivalent) which has tons of sugar. Name your poison, in other words. :sad2:

Interestingly, a restaurant is about the only place I can stand to drink the water. It comes very cold with lots of ice. At work we have bottled water, and although it IS very cold, I can't STAND it, and I have to add Crysal Light. I've tried drinking water at home too, even keeping it in the fridge, but...yuck.

Anyway, the OP doesn't even like the water in a restaurant. I wouldn't have thought about bringing in Crystal Light, but in that case, I don't see why not. She's not using it to avoid paying for a drink.

I don't know why restaurants can't just offer something with no sugar or caffeine. Then maybe many of the people now ordering water WOULD pay for a drink.
