Hey all,

Avis rate dropped today with Costco. Had been signed up with Alamo, but Avis is now $100 cheaper, so going with them. Signed up for Avis preferred first, added Wizard # to Costco reservation. Reservation shows up on Avis, added CC info and DL #.

Can I skip the counter and go right to the garage, or because I'm a first time preferred user, do i have to go to the counter?
Have found mixed answers on Google. Seems I may be able to go to the booth in the Garage?

If anybody has experience with Avis preferred, I'd appreciate the help!

I would go straight out to the garage. Usually the reason you'd need to go the counter would be for them to verify the Driver's License and credit card. That can almost always be done at the garage booth. Some of them will just do it at the exit booth.

sounds good, thank you!

We signed up for our last trip ( 1st timer with avis).
we were told the first time you must go to the normal counter to show your drivers license to prove your ID. After that you are allowed to go straight to the car.

I did read a tip, that you can go to any Avis rental car location (your local airport, or town) and they can do the credit card and driver's license(s) confirmations, so you can head straight to the garage when you get to your vacation! I will do darn near anything (including pay more money) to not stand in those lines at the airport when all I want to do is start my vacation!

Hertz and Budget would not let me do this. I went in person and was denied. They told me I had to go to the counter at the airport the first time. Maybe Avis is different. That said, I was renting with Hertz, still signed up for the gold membership and while in flight received an email that my car was ready and to go to the garage. Went out there and our name was on the board with an aisle go select our car. Hopped in, showed DL and CC at exit gate and was off in no time. Moral is.... you don't know until you try lol.

This is entirely dependent on who controls the franchise group and how much work they want to do. Some places will do it for you without a problem and others will tell you that they can't. They can, they just don't want to since there is nothing to help them or their business.

Could you let us know what happened. I would like to try skipping the lines as well. Thank you!

Hi, sorry just saw this. Alamo ended up dropping to the same price as Avis, so went with Alamo because I knew I could skip the line with them. Sorry can't be of more help!

That's a good idea. I mean, our counters here have probably 10% of the traffic as MCO does.

I would assume AVIS is setup at Orlando similar to other airports. Tampa and Jacksonville both have counters of Preferred customers.
If you are 1st time renter you can go to the preferred line and get checked in.
