Best way to snag a room at a sold out resort?

Hi! I have been trying for a couple weeks to get a room (anything under $1500/night) at Grand Floridian for 4 nights at the end of September. Want my sister and her 5 yr old to be in same resort as our family.

I do have 2 reservations for her now (2 nights in a GF DVC resort studio and 2 nights in a GF resort room). But I have checked several times a day for weeks and there is NOTHING available for our full dates (sept 27-oct 1). Would really love to not waste that day with her moving suitcases to our room for 5 hrs before she can check in again.

Does it help to call Disney and ask if one of the reservations can be extended earlier/later?

One person suggested rooms might open up at the 30 day mark for package cancelations, so definitely keeping an eye out for that.

Any tips I am missing for how I can get a room for those 4 nights?

Maybe I don't need to worry about it since we are planning a pool day before leaving for MNSSHP at 4:00 that day?

TIA!

If you can’t find anything by calling the Disney reservation line, try looking at confirmed reservations on one of the DVC rental sites. You might find something!

It is possible, in this case, calling can help.
Most of the time no, it does not. But, if you are looking at short stays such as 1 or 2 additional nights it's possible you need to call for them to see what are called Orphan rooms that won't show up on the website and will show up in their system.

As for finding them on your own, it's pure darn luck. Inventory goes back in the system pretty quick as it's cancelled. Seeing how someone can cancel at any time, the room can show up at any time too.
