For those of us on a budget with a large family who need fruits, veggies and easy to go meals, what do you recommend as the best option close to WDW? There are Target and Walmarts with grocery sections (I know the Walmart on 192 is huge) as well as Publix at Water Town shoppes, celebration?. What do you recommend for best selection and cost?

Our favorite is the Publix you're mentioning at Water Town Shoppes in Celebration. We tend to stay at Pop Century and I find it especially convenient from there (we also tend to rent a car).

What hotel are you staying at? If it was a monorail hotel I'd suggest a Publix off of Reams Rd instead.

I am a local and I shop primarily at Publix. They are not necessarily the cheapest on everything, but they are competitive on most things and run decent sales. The produce at Publix is always excellent quality and they have a wide selection. Walmart will be the cheapest on most things but my local Walmart (I haven’t been to the one you are considering, as I am a little farther north) is rather dark and dingy, and crowded at all hours, so unless it’s something I can’t get somewhere else I generally don’t shop there. Target will be in the middle price wise on most items, but my Target doesn’t have the selection that my Publix does.

There isn’t a lot of variance in the prices for most items, but if you are watching every penny Walmart will be cheapest. But the quality at Publix is typically better enough to make up for the difference in price. I would recommend going to the Publix website to see what’s on sale if you decide to shop there. Their sale week starts on Thursday and runs through the following Wednesday except around major holidays when they adjust for store closures.

I have lived in central Florida now over 20 years. Publix has a strangle hold on the grocery market share, but that doesn't mean there aren't other options. Neighborhood Walmart's are competitively priced as well as Aldi and Wynn Dixie. The advantage of Publix is the swath of locations and produce quality. The BOGO's are decent most times, but expect a higher price typically on non-sale items.

Publix subs have become overrated in recent years. The most recent Publix supermarkets now have a separate sub station and are compartmentalized near, but not part of, the deli. Pub Subs have lost their steam over the past 3-4 years and, although everything has gone up in price, their subs went up more significantly than the competition. I used to do mobile ordering for pick-up, but their mistake rate is near 50%.

It is a good question as far as to where you will be staying? That is a determinant.

There's an Aldi off I-drive close to the Vineland outlet mall. That's where I'd go if you are worried about price. At least here in my home town, nobody beats Aldi on price.

I recommend Kroger delivery first, both for price and convenience. If you're going to shop, I prefer Target (most of the ones around Disney have full groceries) over Walmart, but both are going to be cheaper than Publix and should have everything you need.

Publix has a cult like following, and yes, their produce is almost always fresh, and some of them have amazing grab and go sections (expensive, but good options). But as a local, I only shop there for BOGOs. They're just so much more expensive than other options. And the subs are overrated and overpriced sandwiches.

Hey, thanks for the idea. I never used Kroger and never saw a Kroger near WDW, do you know what the cost is and if you need a membership etc? Thanks.

Kroger doesn’t exist in Florida (at least the in person stores).
Specifically, Kroger is a delivery only option. I see a lot of their delivery trucks out and about. Before we moved to Florida Kroger was our store of choice.

I have not purchased anything from Kroger because I prefer to select my meat and produce myself. But that is a personal preference. I have not heard anything negative about their delivery service.

I switched to Kroger delivery, with boost, about 4 months ago and never looked back. If I need/want superior produce and/or fresh meats, I drive ~1 mile to my local Publix. Kroger offers competitive prices and good quality for their brand name products (sans produce as mentioned above).

The delivery service has been more stressed of late including late delivery times and more out-of-stock items than only a few months ago; I don't lay that at the feet of Kroger holistically. But those blue bags come in handy for my kitchen garbage can!

There is no physical Kroger store. It's all delivery. I have the unlimited delivery for a year for $59 but you can also get a one time delivery for- I think- around $10.

I get most of my groceries there 3-4 times per month and have only had 1 late delivery and I think 2-3 total issues in the last few years with a missing item and one time something damaged and Kroger completely refunded me, no issues. Like I said I do the BOGOs at Publix, but if you're needing a big shopping trip with a variety of foods for the week, Publix is going to cost significantly more than anywhere else.

If I used a delivery service at Disney, I would absolutely prefer having my food arrive in a refrigerated truck vs someone's hot trunk.
