Battery replacement from AAA

Has anyone purchased the AAA battery when their battery has gone dead? I know they have a 3-year replacement warranty, but am wondering how the battery has held up for anyone that has gotten it. Also, do you pay the tow truck driver, or give your credit card number to AAA over the phone? Any other comments about the service?

My sister had her battery replaced by AAA just a few months ago. She paid the driver. The battery was a little more expensive than if we had gone to Sam's Club to buy one, but he was there, Sam's Club was closed, and the guy would install the battery for her. In the end, it was worth it to have him take care of everything for her.

My son did it and ended up replacing the battery within a short time. I think if you read the "fine print" it can be a USED battery.

I had AAA replace my battery 4 times in as many monthes a few years ago. I only paid for the first one. My car had some sort of problem that was draining the battery. After the fourth time the guy suggested I go to the shop. They had no problem replacing it when I called, even though it was my car's fault not the battery that they gave me. I paid the first guy who gave me the battery, just gave him a check. The only number AAA wanted from me over the phone was my member number. I never needed a tow, so I don't know how that works.

We did and paid the tow truck driver. Battery worked great for us. I think we had it for 2 years before we got rid of the car, and never had any trouble. I don't know how much more expensive it was than it would have been going to a shop - we were stranded in pouring rain with 2 little ones, and they came out within 1/2 hour and replaced it for us. We gave the dispatcher our member #, then paid the driver by credit card when he arrived.

We have done two. Both times we paid the driver and were on the road again in about an hour from first call. Very convenient and no problems with the batteries. It was probably a little more than if I did it on my own, but the one car required 30 minutes of pulling things apart to get at the battery and I would never have made it :rotfl:

We had great service and the warranty if good if anything happens to it. We just keep it in the glovebox of each car.

Thanks for starting this thread, OP. My battery is on it's last leg and expensive. I needed my DH and his brother to push it out of my driveway during the superbowl to jump it. I have AAA but didn't know they did this. Thanks for the tip!

I did this just after new years last year. As I remember paid the driver and the price was not too bad - in looking after the fact it was about $10 more than sams or farm and fleet but they came to my house and put it in my car with the temperature well below 0

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Seems like it makes the most sense to go ahead and buy their battery, even if it is a few bucks more. The convenience of them installing it right then and there, disposing of the old battery, and having a warranty comparable to the name brands seems well worth it. Plus, I'm thinking if the new battery doesn't start up, we'd be calling them again for a jump and since our renewal just started a few weeks ago, I don't want to use up all of our service calls right away.

I'm surprised they don't advertise this more. Maybe we should start a new thread where people could post other little known benefits. Most of us know about the hotel and restaurant discounts, the free maps, and their insurance, but maybe there's other benefits that would be nice to know.

We did this last year - worked great. Cost about $150.00 for Chevy Tahoe here in CA.

I know my DH used AAA to replace a car battery and he said it was well worth it for them to come to the house. He didn't have to tow the car and wait at another location for service. He called, went about his business, they came, did the job and he paid them. Very simple with no aggrivtion. He also said it was a little cheaper. Battery was fine, can't tell you how long it lasted as we sold the car a year later. AAA has always been a very dependable roadside service for us.

I would look into advance auto parts or auto zone. Advance will install it for you, I don't know about auto zone and they have a pretty good warrenty. I bought the gold, 3 year warrenty for $89.99.
