I understand my son can open an account in Fl at the credit union (don't remember which one, however??:confused3), but I'd also like to know if he can just use his debit card to his regular national bank account? Are there atm's available on property, in the apartment complexes and at his work place? Would there be fees at the atm's if it's just a national bank and not the credit union?

Thanks!

and can he have his paycheck direct deposited into his regular bank account? when and how does that get set up? thanks again!

Paychecks can be direct deposited into any bank account as long as the routing info is provided to them.

WDW has chase ATMs all over. Most ATMs in the country charge fees to those who use them and are not members of that specific bank.

Partners Federal Credit Union is probably the bank you're thinking of since that's the one that was founded for Disney cast members and suggested for the college program participants to join. This bank has ATMs throughout the backstage areas.

Most of this information is on the Disney College Program website. If you look at every page of the website and still feel that the info there isn't enough then (if your son is too busy to do it himself) get his password and user name from him and log-in to the restricted (accepted people only) part of the site for even more information.

He can use his regular bank and have his paycheck direct deposited. Direct deposit can be set up on the hub and my trainer walked us through that on one of our training days (so make sure he takes at least one blank check with him to FL if he doesn't plan on bringing a whole book of checks so he can use the routing number to set up direct deposit). There is also a form to set up direct deposit because my mom asked at the parents meeting at check in how that worked so she gave me the form (so maybe you could do that if he doesn't plan on having checks in FL?) I don't remember but they must have told her we'd be able to set it up on the hub because I never bothered with the paper form. My first check did come in paper form so the only time I needed to go to a bank was to deposit that check.

I don't know about the closest ATM or about charges because I never used an ATM. I only needed cash once and I just got cash back at wal mart. I was fine just using my debit card the entire time.

If he's driving I know there are Chase and Wells Fargo (which is still currently still Wachovia in FL) within 10 minutes of the apartments because those are the banks I use. I believe there are Bank of Americas close by too, but I'm not 100% on that.

Disney's credit union is Partners Credit Union. If he decides to go with Partners I'm pretty sure there is an ATM at the housing locations that is Partners (I kinda remember seeing people at the ATM when I went to the clubhouse at Chatham) but I know you can access the Partners BANK using the CP bus.

I'll be starting my CP soon and I was wondering the same thing about banks. I currently have a Chase account, but they're adding a monthly fee to my "free" checking account, so I'll probably cancel it soon. Does the Credit Union have fees attached to it? I've been spoiled and I can't see myself going back to paying.

I do not have a monthly fee, but it depends on which account you set up with them. For the more premier accounts you have to maintain a higher balance to avoid the fee.

I have the classic checking - I have it hooked up to my Direct Deposit at Disney and therefore do not pay a fee.

Here is the direct website: www.partnersfcu.org

I have had Partners (formerly Vista Federal Credit Union) for years. If you go with Basic checking, there are no fees attached. The nice thing about Partners is that once you leave the company, you will always be a member and over the years they have had some really awesome loan rates, especially on used cars.

I set it up long time ago when I was with the company and it is nice to have that account and ties to the company. I use it now as a travel account for when I visit the parks. My daughter also is a member now and there is an ATM right there at the office of Vista Apartments so if she needs cash, it is pretty handy. Not sure about Chatham or Patterson. There are also ATMs around property as well. If she uses another ATM, her fee is reimbursed (she has classic checking with direct deposit)

They can have their money anywhere, but if you are thinking of something local I would definitely recommend Partners.

Chatham's ATM is right outside the clubhouse as well. Unless it has been moved in the last year.

I actually have a question about Partner FCU's basic checking vs classic checking.

With the basic checking, are you still able to do direct deposit? Is there a fee associated with that?

And with classic checking, there's no fee to utilize direct deposit. Is that really the only advantage of classic vs basic?

Also, I live in Nebraska, and I plan on living in Nebraska after my CP is over. I am a member at a credit union here (savings, checking, direct deposit, all that jazz).. So is there really a point to being a member of two credit unions?

Thanks :upsidedow I just don't know a lot about banking :/

You can direct deposit into any account, no fees are associated to direct deposit.

The difference between basic and classic is the overdraft line of credit protection. Here is the link to see Classic, click on the "Compare Accounts" button to see the comparisons: PFU Checking Comparisons

I would stay at your CU in Nebraska if you plan on going back, I used my Iowa CU for the marjoity of my program. It was towards the end I decided to stay permenantly at Disney and then opened a Partners account.

Answers my question too. I use Wells Fargo back in Idaho and would prefer to keep using my account instead of Partners. It will be way easier.

For those of you who use Partners do you like it? I have heard mixed reviews. I remember someone saying that you can only withdraw money from an atm once a week and if you use an atm more than once a week you get charged a fee. I'm just curious if those of you who use Partners like it.

That rule refers to the Payroll Cards issued to Disney Internships and Programs Participants, which are administered by Partners FCU. Partners FCU members with regular VISA Debit Cards are not subject to that restriction.

I no longer bank with Partners (I have really, really specific banking needs which they can't meet). However, I will say that, in the time I was with them, that I never had that big a problem. Service was prompt and friendly, and never had a problem with fees and whatnot. They do clear Disney payroll cheques and direct deposits very quickly, much quicker than other banks and credit unions.

I absolutely love Partners. We opened a flex with them a couple years ago with an interest rate that other banks could not compete with (too bad they're not that high anymore). We also took out our home mortage with them with a great rate!

I have never had any sort of problem with them: quick, prompt, easy to work with. The only complaints I have heard from other people are in regards to overdrafts.... but I do not think Partners is to blame for that. I've discovered many people down here are horrible at managing money and find it easier to hate the bank than to improve their financial situation.

Just thought I'd mention really quick that while the ATMs in the apartment complexes are Partner's, that the ones in the parks are Chase ATMs in case that helps anyone. I've got an account with Chase and if I even needed an ATM I was usually at the parks often enough (out of costume) that I could just use one there.

Is the hub accessible only after check in? I did read something about it, but I've read so much I don't remember. The hub is actually a website for CPer's only, correct?

Thanks!

The Hub is the internal intranet of The Walt Disney Company and Affiliated Companies. It is only accessible to Disney Cast Members and employees.
