I’m tired of getting a backpack and it dies within a month. What ones have a really good warranty? The straps are normally the first to rip.(is there a warranty that covers that?) Any suggestions?

Personally we are an LLBean backpack family. I bought one for a diaperbag for my 10 yr old son. We still use it everyweekend for trips and "car" stuff.

I see many LL Bean backpacks around. I know they used to have a lifetime warranty on their products, not sure if they still do.

What kind of backpacks are you buying that are being destroyed in one month?

My son's backpack is horrifically heavy and it took him a year to rip the strap on his Jansport. He's also carried LL Bean in the past with no problems.

We have made the mistake of buying cheaper brands and, no, they do not last if you carry more than 3 textbooks regularly.

Lands End has a great warranty. I just called them to ask if they could repair the zipper on my child's 2.5-school-years-old backpack and they said they don't repair zippers but they would return the money I paid for the backpack. Their policy is returns for any reason, so that would cover straps too.

I've had really good luck with Jansport backpacks. Haven't needed to try the return policy. Two of my kids' Jansports are on their 4th year of school, camping, traveling, being washed and still work and look great.

My DS used his backpack for 3 years when the zipper broke. I returned it hoping they would give me a small credit toward a new one. Instead they sent me a check for the full purchase price of the bag. :)

This was less than a year ago. I believe LLBean has the same "lifetime" policy.

We bought both of our boys Jansport packs this year because we bought multiple cheap ones every school year. I have a Jansport that we still use on trips and such that I received in the 5th grade, and I'm 35! We had to have the zipper replaced once.

Jansport. All the way. I bought one for my 21 year old son when he was in kindergarten. It is still good. I sent it in once for a zipper replacement and it was free.

L.L. Bean. They stand behind their stuff, definitely. But you won't have any problems -- those things LAST!!

I would NOT buy another Eddie Bauer. The netting in the front of mine ripped the first month I had it and they would not do anything to replace it. They told me to "go find a seamstress". I like the style of it and I'm still using it, but I would stay away from them in the future.

Lands End here. My son is on year 3 of using the same bag. We'll only have to change it because he'll need a bigger one for middle school.

Not sure of the warranty but my son has a Jansport and is on his second year and it looks new. hmmm could be lack of him bringing home books of homework:rotfl: I just bought my daughter a Jansport too.

LL Bean and Lands End are both very good in terms of standing up to abuse and the company standing behind their products. We, in fact, had an incident where a Lands End rolly-backpack had its metal handle bent by the unfortunate happenstance of being run over by a car. Lands End replaced it, without question. That's amazing customer service in my book.

I am a college student and own a Jansport. My backpack gets EXTREMELY heavy with all the books I carry. It has held up well for the past three years. I bought one for each of my kids at the beginning of the school year. My son will be taking his to college with him this fall.

And, I was told if you keep the tags, they have a lifetime warranty.

My husband needed a large, heavy duty, black backpack for work. I found him one at the Samsonite outlet. It has held up beautifully, and I am pretty sure it came with a warranty.

Lands End and LL Bean are the only places I will buy backpacks. Both last virtually forever.

DD's Lands End pack lasted 10 years and was often loaded with books. One strap finally began to tear last year so we replaced it. (we could have sent it in for a warranty repair, but I felt we got our money's worth)

DS carried that same LL Bean pack for 8 years. It is still in great shape and used for weekends, but he was ready for a new style so he got a new one for Christmas this year.
