Are the Days of Walking a DVC Reservation Numbered?

And a lot more people NOT upset about it than those posting on this thread.
I suppose the walkers need to squeak 🐭 more so I made this post.
Also , I was just able to get a 4 night, 9 point SV room at BWV in September that someone had canceled. There are work arounds for finding what you are looking for.

I have shared this but the board didn’t bring this up….it was brought up by an owner who wanted to know if they had authority to change the rules in the meetings I attended.

And the response was that it’s not common but they would certainly be open to rule changes but st the same time carefully consider the consequences of those changes.

So, I would not interpret that to mean they have concerns…I think they were letting owners know that they are hearing owners concerns and that they certainly would be open to explore changes

They also heard from owners who said that flexibility of the program was most important and that not in favor of rule changes that limit that. .

No, that’s not what I’m saying.
I’m saying that you have a better chance of getting 1 black than 2 or more blacks in a row. The individual chances of any one spin are the same, but once you start to aggregate spins the chances of getting a number of the same outcomes in succession diminish.
No you don’t.

Because rooms are limited and taken out of inventory, it would be more like each time black is bet upon, a black number is removed from the roulette wheel for the next spin. You may now have the same chances as rolling black as everyone else does on the next spin, but not as high of a chance for the previous spin, where someone else started first
That would be true if rooms were actuallly taken out of inventory, but the morning of check out day EVERY room is available.

If you wait to book for your whole trip from check out day as that system was intended, the earlier days ARE removed from inventory if they are fully booked up by people booking daily

And even if you try to book daily, the chance you will be successful every single day diminishes the longer your trip is. Shorter trips are more bookable than longer

Well hard to get rooms can be booked day by day.
That is simply using your booking window when it opens to extend your trip.

Yeah, at the moment, I'm leaning towards changing the point charts so that the rooms most commonly walked are less desirable.

Make it a 1-point difference between (for example) BWV-Standard and BWV-Garden/Water view, and the BWV-Standard View room become a lot less appealing.

The summer of 2025 is a great example. I noticed that the much cheaper (4-point difference) Sunday-to-Thursday night BWV-Standard Studios were mostly booked at 11 months, but BWV-Standard Studios remained available most weekends (2-point difference) at 11 months.
It's not as easy as just raising the number of points needed for one category while lowering it by a point for another category. The total number of points overall needs to balance. For instance when you have 52 standard view studios at BWV and 164 garden view studios you couldn't raise the points for a standard by 3 and reduce the gardens by 1. It wouldn't balance overall. It also impacts all of the lockoff 2BRs as well. The algorithm for adjusting the points charts is pretty complex

I fully agree, it is complex to change the point charts.

Disney recently finished a multi-year change to the point charts. These changes helped balance October and November demand.

I'm sure they have the workforce and knowledge to make more changes.

Again, when a walker books a night, they desired it to be a check in day…plain and simple.

If they decide to change it the next day, they desired to change it….thst is only what matters.

And it’s not about being hard to enforce…it’s about DVC not legally having the right to stop any owner from booking any room at their home resort for whatever reason they want.

As I said, if I go in and book a room today with my points, and DVC asks me why, I can say “none of your business”. That sounds snarky but that is the truth.

So, we can agree to disagree. No matter what rules DVc puts in the place, even if they go back to day by day booking, they will never be allowed to stop an owner from booking any room when it’s open for booking and never be able to cancel it based on intent.
Not sure where you got your info from but you are wrong on what they can and can't do. Section 7.2 of the MSPOS reads:

Compliance with Terms and Conditions. All rules and regulations which apply to the use of DVC Resort Vacation Homes and related facilities by Club Members shall also apply to any users of such Vacation Homes and related facilities arranged through the DVC Reservation Component, including a Club Member’s lessee, guest, invitee, licensee, or exchanger. By use of the DVC Reservation Component, each Club Member agrees, and each Club Member’s lessee, guest, invitee, licensee, or exchanger is deemed to agree, to comply with the terms and conditions described in this Disclosure Document and with the rules, regulations, and restrictions of any DVC Resort at which the Club Member reserves Vacation Homes. Failure of a Club Member,or the failure of a Club Member’s lessee, guest, invitee, licensee, or exchanger to comply with the terms and conditions of this Disclosure Document or with the rules, regulations, and restrictions of any DVC Resort may result in the denial of the right of the Club Member to reserve and the right of a Club Member or the Club Member’s lessee, guest, invitee, licensee, or exchanger to check in or use the Vacation Homes and facilities of a DVC Resort or for the Club Member to participate in the DVC Reservation Component by requesting a reservation for accommodations at other DVC Resorts until such time as the Club Member or the Club Member’s lessee, guest, invitee, licensee, or exchanger is in compliance. Further, failure of a Club Member, or the failure of a Club Member’s lessee, guest, invitee, licensee, or exchanger, to comply with this Disclosure Document or with the rules, regulations, and restrictions of any DVC Resort when such Club Member or Club Member’s lessee, guest, invitee, licensee, or exchanger is in residence in the DVC Resort may result in the imposition of penalties or costs or removal from the DVC Resort.

They have broad powers to both prevent you of making reservations and prevent you from checking in if your actions violate the T&C.

Well I would need to read the old rule. I don’t have a copy handy.

That said, afaik, the rules allow you to extend your trip as you see fit.

Exaclty which is exactly what walkers choose to do…they keep extending their trips and dropping days.

So just like day by day was allowed when the 11 month window opened on check out day, walking is allowed under the current rules.

Different situations but both obviously had options for owners.

I never said walking is against the rules. If I did, I was in error.

That said, walking, imo, is morally wrong because you are blocking days from others that you never intend to use.

And the terms and conditions allow you to make changes to your reservation without penalty outside of 31 days. And yes, that is writing from DVC.

So, there is no violation of the rules. That is why I keep saying it…someone’s reason for booking is not a requirement or in any of the terms and conditions. Obviously once you are in the room, you can’t do certainly things like run a business out of it, etc.

DVC has confirmed to me that we are indeed allowed to book and change a trip an unlimited number of times per the current rules.

But, you are correct, I should have been clearer that my comments are only related to the context of the booking reservations.

Yes, if you violate rules of the contract, the contract states the remedies in place.

Thank you for pointing it out.

I think that is why this is such a hot topic because it is about how one views it.

And growing every day. Walking begets walking, right?

What is a better DVC product? One in which everyone walks, or one in which no one walks?

Haha!

Just because you can pick the flowers in the community park, or you can leave your cart in parking lot instead of the cart corral, or request a wheelchair for Southwest and get ahead of the people who paid extra for advanced boarding, or use 2 entire stacks of towels at the pool to pad your lounger, or request 6 entrees at DCL Palo…

Then the flowers end up not getting replanted, carts are taking up parking spots and running amok scratching cars, Southwest changes to paid assigned seats, pools start limiting to 1 per person, Palo removes the extra entree option at dinner…

For now we can walk. With the Poly Tower and how many room categories it’s broken down causing some very limited options, let’s see how that one plays out with walking.
