Are refillable mugs from about 2 years ago still allowed?

Back in the 90s, cashiers told us they could be re-used “for life”. I think we got about 5 uses out of a single set of mugs. lol

We will probably buy new ones when we are there next week. It’s not worth the hassle of re-packing if it’s the same price to re-activate.

Drinks will not dispense without a current, active RFID.

Mugs were never intended to be life of cup. It was always written that it was for current stay but many brought them back and refilled anyways thus the introduction of RFID.

A new mug must be purchased for each trip. We bring ours home and donate to a local thrift store for others to enjoy some Disney in their home!
It's stuff like this that really bothers me from an environmental stand point. If Disney really cared about the environment, they would figure out a way to reactivate the RFID chip on the existing cup rather than requiring you buy a new one.I live near Orlando and when you go to the thrift stores around here, they are filled with Mickey ears and refillable mugs. Just large bins and walls of them. It's so sad.

On a side note, I bought a refillable cup at Sea World 6 years ago and I still use it every time I go. You have to pay .99 per refill but a lot of times the employees don't care and wave you through. It's a great deal.

The crazy thing is the stories about the supposedly “hot merchandise” (I.e. not just common cups and hats) at the thrift stores. Remember people waiting hours and hours for the Figment popcorn buckets? Saw someone posted last week in a Facebook group that they found one for $3 at Goodwill...

I personally love cups and mugs. Each year it is different and it's a good collection on my cupboard lol but I rarely reuse it.
Last year, I bought one of those mugs for the stay and also brought one back to just refill water and coffee.

:rotfl: I'd wager that refillable mugs are among the least of the environmental impacts of a wdw vacation.....if we're gonna go that route just imagine the plastic forks alone :rotfl: :rotfl:

Not anymore. They have been the same designs since the end of the 50th celebrations.

I don't dry soda anymore (if I do, it's during vacation or mixed in with liquor) so I bring back the mug I have for water to have at the pool or my room. When I stayed at Coronado in May, I was told the CMs can reactivate the chip but you have to pay the price of a new mug. It also has to be the current version of whatever mug they're offering.

We stayed for 19 nights last month. Bought the mug at Beach Club on check in. When the 14 days expired we were staying at OKW.

I'd seen on the British forums that the mugs can be reactivated if staying longer than 14 nights. Checked with the front desk and they said yes - just go to the QS. Asked at the QS. Reactivated without any questions at all about my length of stay etc. Chatting with one of the CMs and yes, you can bring them back years later if you wish. Although I was wondering about the current mug version? There is no cost saving to buying a new one but if you're worried about the environment then...

Personally, we have a cupboard full of them from over the years but never think to take them back.

But at least they have lids! On this last trip, I didn't bring or buy a refillable mug. However, I wish that I'd brought an old one, just to pour my beverage in from CS places (at least in AK-they don't give lids) and make it easier to get to my table.

Maybeb 25 years ago signage said mugs could be reused on later trips. I remember the signs in the late 90s.

Length of current stay had light white lettering, has been printed on the mugs for at least 20 years.

The machines will dispense ice water in any cup, no chip required
At one time the mugs were for a lifetime.
We bought it for coffee mostly but also sodas. Ended up getting a ton water.
I dont like coffee in a plastic mug that I will drink water from, so I asked the cashier for a disposable cup. I think the only thing in my refillable mug was water. I seldom drink soda. I usually buy a ceramic mug every trip (I have an unhealthy cup and mug addiction) so if I do, I will sometimes bring it to the dispenser and get my coffee in that.
