Anyone know the DVC ownership breakdown by age group?

I'm curious. How do the current owners of DVC contracts breakdown by age group? Is it a bell curve or weighted more heavily in one particular age group? Below is my guess for a bell curve. How would you allocate the breakdown?

Age 18-29: 5%
Age 30-39: 25%
Age 40-49: 40%
Age 50-59: 25%
Age 60-99: 5%

Is this when people buy? Or based on a snapshot in time?

If buy, I’d put 50% in the 30s, and more in the 40s than 20s.

But nothing more than our guessing!

I am in the 65+ group! I bought in when OKW was the only DVC and points were….wait for it….$58.50 per point!! And guess what? We got free park passes until the end of 1999! I bought in 1994, but I believe the first points were sold in 1991. The minimum buy in was 230 points.

So minimum buy in was just under $30k in today’s dollars, so similar to today’s minimum, but you got way more points at the minimum buy in, and with the point charts from then, got you a lot more nights on property and also you got the extras. You bought in at a good time!

Judging by the number of families with young kids I’ve seen at RIV, I would put a higher % in the 30’s category.

Current owners, as in who owns right now today, i'd put your percentages as way off for the 60+ demo. That's gotta be at least in the 20+ range

Age 18-29: 2%
Age 30-39: 20%
Age 40-49: 35%
Age 50-59: 20%
Age 60-99: 23%

In my mind, that lowest age group is real small, and half of that age group are owners because of a death and they got it as inheritance.

All just a huge guess obviously, but other then that lowest age group, id think its all fairly even if not skewed a little towards the 40 range like I put.

Expect some of the younger age group is inheriting them or getting them via family. Buying DVC may be steep, but maintaining it is a lighter (not light) financial commitment.

I don’t even think I took one legitimate vacation in my 30s. I definitely wasn’t buying DVC. I was busy paying loans and working a lot.

I didn’t buy until my 40s but only because we didn’t want any of the options for DVC until Bay Lake came along as we stayed at the Contemporary every year.

Had that existed before it did, we’d have bought for sure in our 30s

We are in the 65+ group as well. Purchased in 1992 while in our 30’s. The free park passes were great! Total cost of membership was in the neighborhood of $14,000 for 230 points. :flower:

Ditto for us, except we bought in 1993 when the minimum dipped to 190. I expect there are a lot of owners currently 60 and over!

Yes, I still miss the $7/8 points per weeknight options...
