Hi all!
I am attending a baby shower and instead of a wishing well with miscellaneous items, the invitation asked us to bring a book and write a message on the inside.
Any suggestions for something cute I can write on the inside of the book? The book I am giving is Five Little Monkeys.
Thanks!! :)

Also, does the hostess have any way of asking people what books they are bringing? Because I can see the mom-to-be opening 6 copies of "Love You Forever" and having no way to return five of them due to a personal message written to her baby. I would make sure the guests either checked with each other or had some way to indicate what they had bought to avoid duplications if they are being asked to personalize the book.

One of my most treasured possessions is the book "Arthur's Baby" by Marc Brown. I had a chance to have it autographed when I was about 7 months pregant. He drew a picture of a baby sitting, wearing only a diaper, and wrote "To Baby (Our Last Name) under the picutre. When my daughter, who is now 20, sees it, she still remembers how thrilled she was when she figured out the author had been thinking about HER when he drew the picture.

So anything that is personal - Welcome, Litle Monkey (Babylastname)! or Welcome, Baby Lastname! Hope you enjoy jumping on your bed!

If you know the baby's name you can write it in - or just leave a space and go back and add it to your message after the baby is born. Or, present it at the shower and then keep it until the baby is born and you can add the name. There are lots of fun choices!!

I ended up using a short poem I found on the internet designed to be written inside a book for a baby since the shower was today! :) Thanks for the ideas anyway! I liked the jumping on the bed one!

Side note, I was just a guest at the shower and I am not close with the mommy-to-be (I work with the grandmother-to-be) so I really have no part in the whole "bring a book to the baby shower" thing. But after reading your comment, while true, she may get multiple copies of a favorite book (though in this case she did not receive duplicates) I don't think it really matters. The books are not the actual gifts to the mommy-to-be, just a little something different instread of a wishing well filled with pacificiers and diapers. Ya know? My gift was some of the bedding. The book went into this cute little basket with everyone else's books. Now if the shower were to give a book rather than other baby items I could see having some kind of book registry but in most cases, I don't think it matters if the baby has more than one but rather who gave was thinking of them before they were born. :)
Thanks for the help! :)
