Alligator tours at Hilton Head, any advice?

Tours to see alligators at HHI? I've never heard of any tours (doesn't mean there aren't any), but alligators are pretty easy to see. We've seen them at golf courses, Sea Pines Forest Preserve, even in people's back yards.

Agree with PP. A few weeks ago we had alligators come right up to our dock on the lagoon. If you go for a stroll around Sea Pines or Palmetto Dunes, stop on the bridges over the canals and watch for them there and on the banks of the golf courses.

H20 watersports offers them, and thats the only place that I see so far that does. I am going to do a lot of research about them, as they are not cheap. I would want to get my moneys worth.

One of the Disney resort nature tours goes to Pinckney Island Wildlife Reserve. There are plenty of gators out there. It's a free tour the resort offers (they load you in a van and drive you out to the reserve). Just a thought if you don't want to cough up the extra dough for a special tour.

It's funny, but we've seen alligators lots of places but never at Pinckney Island (and yet, we've been to Pinckney lots of times). I know that it's highly recommended that you'll see alligators there so maybe they're just hiding from us.

Maybe they are hiding from you. We saw a ton on our last trip out there. :)

Agree with others...we were there in Nov. and wanted to do the same and found that Sea Pines was incredible for alligator sightings. It was worth it to pay the car entrance fee and then drive around to various golf course, ponds etc. They were everywhere.

If you want to easily see Gators, try staying down on Rotunda. They have these little parks on the waterways and great big ones like to sun themselves, right next to people's houses. They are all over the place.

This has been very true for us too. Figure that the entrance fee to Sea Pines (went up to $6/car last year) is the least expensive alligator tour you'll find. Come to think of it, our experience seeing alligators there was also in November.

We couldn't believe the size of some of them. Many were right in backyards next to lawn furniture!

Advice on the alligator tours at Hilton Head? Worth it?

I just saw one! It's in Sea Pines, it's a boat tour. I don't remember details. But it's in the post from Webmaster Doc about ongoing activities at HHI for the month of July on the DVC resorts board. I'd link to it here, but I'm afraid I'm not computer literate enough to know how to link. Hope I described well enough how you can find the info.

Ongoing: Alligator & Wildlife Boat Tour with H2O Sports in the Sea Pines Forest Preserve. Get an up-close view of indigenous plant and animal life, including the American alligator, on a one-hour guided boat tour. Reservations are required, call (843) 671-4386 or visit h2osports.com.

Went to Pinckney Island today, no alligator sightings, thank heavens.
