All female space flight back safe

With the amount of charity and humanitarian work that Katy Perry has done in her life already, I’m happy to grant her these 11 minutes for whatever reason she chooses.

She’s still very much a net positive.

But she loses points for the music. 🤣

Seriously though, I don't remember all this scrutiny and grousing on previous space tourism flights. Nobody was worried about it when William Shatner went up. Of course, he's Captain Kirk, so of course he's qualified.... 😉

She's actually a really great performer. I saw her with my DD when my DD was a tween and it was a really good show. I was a little shocked that my (then) DD12 knew all the words to all the songs ... including "Peacock"

I was thinking the same thing. No one had a fit about space tourism when Shatner when up on Blue Origin.

Nah, she's fine - just not really my cup of tea, musically speaking. 🙂

Nobody said he was anything other than a space tourist. This “first all female crew” thing has been implying they are more than that.

Probably because he isn't annoying.

All of these women seemed highly irritating to me. The hair, the makeup, the nails. The "I took a daisy on board" and the long, deep explanation as to why. The kissing of the ground, after an 11 minute ride. The screaming and high pitched giggling, while being referred to as astronauts. The whole "I can't wait to touch down on Earth and share what we bring back with the world" made me laugh.

It was a Rich Girl Circus to me. Just my opinion. I found nothing endearing about it.

Interesting turn to the thread

Sister-in-law has an aerospace engineering degree, she also interned at NASA in Virginia for a summer. Neither of those alone make her a scientist. But it's the work one is doing that makes one that IMO. Looking at the bio on Blue Origin's website it doesn't call out Nguyen as a NASA scientist (does describe the work she did at NASA). It does specify former NASA scientist for Aisha Bowe.

As far as astronaut term it's expanded over the years to include people who have gone up in space, TBH that makes sense as there is less governmental space explorational being done throughout the world it's being plugged by others. That said I think it's okay to just clarify someone who has simply been up in space and someone on an actual mission for space.

All I can think of is it's nice for space to still be of interest to some people, for the wealthy or not matters not to me at least that interest is still out there, though I agree about the concerns brought up about the tourist submarine as it's a valid thing to think about.

I really couldn't give a Rattus norvegicus's derriere. But this is 100% a PR flight, which is fine, it pushed our boundaries, knowledge and employs a lot of people as we learn. But saying these passengers are astronaut is really an insult to the real astronauts that trained to go into space and had a purpose. People like William Shatner, Michael Stahan, and Katy Perry are 100% not astronauts, just rich celebs.

Hmm... why are you making assumptions about my gender?
Misogyny is not specific to men. It's a way of thinking. Whether you feel the other poster is correct or not correct about that impression it would be highly incorrect to presume someone is assuming your gender based on your words alone in the context of misogyny. Women engage in misogyny thinking too.

Blue Origin is accepting reservations for a future flight with a $150,000.00 deposit.

Filling out the form and placing a deposit does not guarantee a seat on the next flight. 😂
