My GF is expecting and we were discussing her favourite names tonight.

She really likes Alice/Alyce.

We have an Alice :goodvibes in the family, and I like the traditional spelling the best. I don't dislike the other verson though.

Wouldn't they be pronounced differently. Alyce to me would be pronounced Al-leese. But I've never known someone named Alyce.

Definitely Alice. It's a beautiful name and replacing the i with a y somehow cheapens it for me.

Definitely Alice. Alyce looks like a typo. Beautiful name though!

I like Alice. I very much dislike Alyce. It looks like the name of a drug, not a child. If you (general you, OP, I know this isn't you) want to name your child Alice, then name her Alice. If you don't want to name her "Alice" then pick a different name. It makes no sense to misspell it.

As someone who has a unique spelling of their name (it's Elysha, but pronounced like Alicia), I HATED when people spelled my name wrong. I just expect it now and tell people to spell it any way they want.
But, on the other hand, I do like the spelling of my name much more than Alicia.
I don't think I've helped... sorry:rolleyes1

I prefer traditional spellings so Alice is my vote. Even though you would keep the pronounciations the same if I were to see the name Alyce I would think it was pronounced A-lease.

If you go with Alyce she will spend her whole life correcting people on the spelling and the pronunciation.

She will never find anything with her name on it, nor will you, like mugs, ornaments, etc.

Imo when you play with a classic it just looks goofy.

I agree with the other posters; I would probably pronounce it A-lease instead of Alice.

And just remember, it's ALICE in Wonderland, not Alyce in Wonderland.

Side-bit: I have a friend whose last name is actually Wonderland. Guess what he used to say he wanted to name his future daughter? Allison Wonderland.

My daughter, Alice, is named after the great Imagineer Alice Davis.

I like the name anyway, because it's easy to spell, a classic, and she wasn't one of eighteen Madison Ashton Ashley Mackenzies in her classes. Now that she likes Alice Cooper and the goth Alice from Hot Topic, I'm the best name-giverer ever, apparently. Go me.

I absolutely detest substituting a Y for an I in a name. It's not cute, it's silly.

I agree with the majority, I think if she uses Alyce, people will be calling her "A-leece" her entire life.

And good point about never finding her named spelled "right" on any souvenier or personalized type items.

Wouldn't they be pronounced differently. Alyce to me would be pronounced Al-leese. But I've never known someone named Alyce.
Yup! Have to agree. And through her life she would probably have people making that error so to speak. Take it from someone whose maiden name was difficult to pronounce and spell. :(

I voted for Alice too...here's why. My great aunt (born in 1924 so this spelling is nothing new) was named Alyce (pronounced Alice). Her name was constantly mispronounced (Uh-leece) and it drove her crazy so I say go with Alice. I actually like "Alice" better anyway.

i agree...i am so tired of people trying so hard to be different.....in such trivial ways....
