My family and I are going on a 3 day Bahamas cruise on the Disney Dream. We have never cruised before. How much should 2 adults budget for drinking for 3 days?
Thanks~

I am planning pretty cheap for seven days, less than $100 on board. Carry on a bottle of wine, capitalize on a free drink at the captain's reception, do a tasting, try a couple drinks of the day, maybe pick up another bottle of wine in port.

I would say that depends on how much you plan on drinking.

For us.........$0

Pretty unhelpful post but ....

I want to say drinks were 6-8 dollars on deck or at meals plus a tip. That may not be exact but felt like normal prices on land

I don't drink, but my DH does and I usually budget for him about $10/day. With this, he has enough that he can have less expensive/moderately priced drink each day if he wants or he can go a day without a drink and then have a nicer wine at dinner one night. Or, if he skips a drink, he could instead have a couple of coffees at Cove, etc. It seems to work out about right.

So if you like moderately priced drinks, skip a drink now and then and like to have maybe one expensive drink, I would probably budget that amount. It's worked for us as a good middle of the road amount. So for a 3-day, you might try $60 total for the two of you drink-wise.

I am a moderate drinker and budget $10 a day PLUS my tastings budget. On a three day probably not many tasting even offered (and if there where I am sure I myself would rather do other things with the limited time). On my upcoming two week PC cruise I will have to budget for at least five tastings at about $25 each.

Drink of day runs a bit under $8 with the tip. They are usually not to my liking as they are usually "fruity" flavored. Specialty liquors are going to cost more of course. My go to drink is a margarita on the rocks and most of them run $8-12 before tip depending on which bar and which tequila.

A beer is 5.50 I believe plus a 15 percent tip. So a beer will run you about 6.32 a beer. If you buy 5 at one time you get one free.

Mix drinks run around 6-8 dollars. Plus a 15 percent tip. Drink of the day you can get for a little cheaper.

Well, this all makes me feel like a drunk! I would say we spent closer to $30-40 per person per day and it's not like we were wasted or anything! We might have a frozen drink during the afternoon ($10 with tip), split a bottle of wine over dinner ($15-20 each, as we usually picked a bottle in the $30-40 range). Occasionally, a post-dinner drink in the evening (another $10). Some days were lower, some higher.

Not a drunk. On vacation I probably have 3-5 drinks a day since an afternoon cocktail is totally acceptable. At home, 0-1 unless I'm at a wedding or other social event.

How much should you budget cannot be answered. We do not know how much you drink or how much other activities will make it so you do not have time to drink.

So the most helpful answer was dclpluto's how much does it cost to drink.

I tend to budget $30/day to miscellaneous, which covers my vices - drinking seminars, drinking, specialty coffee, Palo. Sometimes, I don't use it sometimes I run a little over (Remys). Mostly, I use it on Palo, a drink seminar and coffee. Otherwise I am too busy going to events, sitting in the hottub, watching movies, etc.

Drinks in port might also be cheaper. I heard about in a previous forum that at end of cruise. They had $2000 racked up.

Think on average $10 per drink and then how many drinks you want, times the number of passengers. That's how I would do it if I needed to make a budget. We just put it on the card and pay it off when we get home.

Remember. You are on vacation. Enjoy yourself.

That is why I like the Royal Caribbean drink package. My budget is $57 per day. I wasn't thrilled that I had to pay for it in advance, but I guess now my onboard drink budget is $0 per day and I can have whatever I want without worry. (When we cruised Disney, we probably spent about $30-$40 per day, but we also had a couple drinks (sometimes more) in our cabin from our carryon.) So even though I am spending more on drinks now with RCI, I will no longer have to worry about not wanting to order one more round because it will be another $20 for my wife and I. And even with the drink package cost included, I am paying much less than a similar cruise on Disney before any drinks.

Just an FYI - on formal night/Captain's reception it's "open bar" for like two hours or however long the reception lasts (at least it was when we were on the Fantasy - CM's were walking around with trays of beer, wine and that night's signature cocktail for the adults and ginger ale and Shirley Temples for the kids). Also, if you bring alcohol on board, whether you buy in port or bring from home, you will not be able to drink them while on the cruise. They will hold it for you and return it to you when you disembark on your last day. If you buy alcohol from the onboard shops, they will again hold it until disembarkation. They want you to buy their alcohol. So, in general domestic beers are about $5-6, imports are about $7-8, wine can run from $8-10 a glass/$30-50 a bottle (depending on the name, region, etc) and mixed cocktails run around $11-12. Some drinks might be higher, some might be lower but that's about it.

For a three day cruise, if you each have 2 beers (4 in total at $5.50 each) with dinner you might spend around $30 a night - including tax and tip (I can't remember if they taxed the alcohol on the cruise but I'm using Florida's 6.5% tax rate and an 18% tip). Of course if you drank more or had more expensive drinks it would cost more.

Imagine how this makes me feel! We spent close to $1000 on our last cruise (Fantasy - Western Caribbean). We had beers by the pool, wine with dinner, the $$$ specialty cocktails, beer for the room, DH would get sambuca or anisette with his espresso and I'd get Bailey's with my cappuccino every night with dinner and I had to have my afternoon chocolate espresso martini while the boys played BBall on deck 12 a couple of afternoons. We really, really, REALLY needed it!

150 each per day

While I suspect your post was in jest,, for some people I know THAT would be entirely a reasonable estimate. A local bar offered a "all you can drink" deal, $150 per person per day ($200 per person for "premium" liquors) and a couple of my co-workers were very excited by that. They said they typically spend over $200 a night each on a Saturday night on liquor. :crazy2: :drinking::drinking::drinking::drinking:And that is not a cruise ship bar prices.:crazy2:

This seems absolutely reasonable to me, and exactly on par with what I do. Therefore, to answer the original question, it simply depends on much you drink!

I live in NYC so for me the prices on the cruise are actually CHEAPER than here. Here a domestic beer can run as high as $7-8 and imported beers are like $10. Mixed drinks are like $15 and wine is about $10 a glass. And that's in the local "dive". If you go the a "trendy" place, it can be twice as much.

I have fond memories of a college trip to Hawaii in 1977 with requirement that if we went drinking we HAD to have a designated driver to use the car the college rented for us to use. Our mixed drinks, $5, designated driver's glass of milk, $10.
