Alamo deposit hold?

How much does Alamo at MCO hold when you rent?
I am getting diffrent awnsers about what the hold is.
I am renting a standerd for a week if that makes a difference

Not 100% positive, but I think $200? It might be listed in the contract fine print online.

Okay, I found this under renting with a debit card "Renters without a ticketed return travel itinerary will need to provide a credit card with sufficient funds to cover the cost of the rental plus $200. Debit cards are only accepted at the time of rental if accompanied by a ticketed return travel itinerary."

So from that, it looks like they don't put a hold on a credit card rental, but you need to have a return ticket if renting with a debit.

With Alamo, using a credit card, they have always pre-authorized the full anticipated charge per my booking on the day I’m starting the rental. I always check-in online and use Alamo’s skip the counter option at MCO. They actually charge the credit card when I return the car at the end of the rental.

I'm not trying to be a snob but if people are really concerned about the hold then it doesn't matter if it's a hold or an actual charge because presumably they don't have much credit or money -- the end result is the same: a reduction in your available credit or a reduction in your available balance (debit).

I have to be prepared, especially if it's a high hold.
This time I have 3 hotel stays also with deposits. Last time we had a unexpected hold and it really changed our vacation because we do not use credit cards and pay cash/ debit card for everything.... so yes we do not carry a high balance.

Yes at one point other companies use to put a $500 hold on the cc. And if the resort you are staying at also puts a hold on your card that could be a lot of money tied up in holds. So being prepared is a good thing.

Another thing I will add if you are looking for ways to minimize the hold is to make sure the time you show up is accurate to the time you are actually going to rent or else have the return time get modified before they print out the paperwork.

Example:

Your reservation is for Monday at 3:00 PM and you said you're going to return the following Monday at 2:00 PM.

However, you actually show up Monday at 12:00 PM and are planning to return by 12:00 PM. Well, if you don't get the estimated return time changed then they are going to automatically charge you for an extra day. You would get that back if you return within the appropriate time but the hold will be on there for the duration of the rental.
