Can anyone help me out and tell me quickly how to apply Girl Scout Badges with Badge Magic? I'm hoping to pick some up today and get them on my daughters vest for her meeting today.

Thanks for any help you could give me :thumbsup2

It's so easy to use,

it's very similar to Stichery Witch, iron on and it's set,

The great thing about Badge magic is that is actually really stays, I had one mom how used it and her daughters stuff never fell off.

At the GS shop, you will find it comes as one big sheet, some of the sheets are just a full page of Badge Magic and you can cut it to size for whatever you need, other sheets have a labeled laid out guide to cut things to exact size.

I found that the patches fell of in the wash with badge magic. I ended up getting Stich Witchery. Now I just sew them on.

It is great stuff. I use it to put badges on the boys felt vests. No ironing required. I have stopped using the badge magic on the cub scout shirts now that I have 3 boys. You can't take off the badge magic. I just hand sew badges onto the shirts now so they can be removed at a later date.

The badge magic leaves a residue behind, it can be cleaned off with goof off but that area leaves grime and what not. If you have badges that will get changed out as your child advances I suggest sewing them on.

The badges will come off with dry cleaning. I use both the sheet version and the can version for quick applying if I don't have time to sew on the boy's stuff before the meetings. My oldest DS had one badge fall off after about a year of washing and drying. I do like the can version better. It holds us longer, but takes longer to set. A couple hours vs. instant with the sheets

I'm in charge of the "experienced" uniforms for our town's cubs and boy scouts. I hate Badge Magic because it leaves residue behind and makes the uniforms quasi-useless as hand me downs. I've tried GooGone and a bunch of other options and nothing gets it all off. I don't have funds to pay to get them dry cleaned.

For those needing a quick-fix, you can staple them on. I did the all the basic patches for my GS troop so their sashes wouldn't be blank at their bridging ceremony. People thought I'd taken the time to sew them all on. :rolleyes1

So glad to see this thread! Where can I get Badge Magic?

My son participates in AWANA and wears a vest. He just got his first patch and I need to have it on there by Sunday. I won't have to wash the vest often, if ever!, so I just want the easiest way to apply it.

Thanks!!

Look for local stores that sell Boy Scout uniforms. They usually have it. We have a local hobby shop & a Boy Scout store nearby.

A needle and thread is a very quick and easy way to attach a badge. As a matter of fact, if your child is 7 or more, they can sew it themselves! You just have to patiently model once or twice. Then leave it up to them. Isn't scouts about fostering responsibility :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 When I had cubs, we worked on sewing every year and they were told they were to do their boy scout uniform patches when they crossed over.

Some of the patches are way to thick.. I wont kill my fingers. My kids do hand sew (including my 6yo cub scout) but not their vests.

I just bought the badge magic for the first time in June when I was putting badges on 7 vests. I stink I lining them up straight so it helps be hold them in place and than I go over them with the sewing machine. It worked great. I dont worry about any residue since the girls keep them them when done.

I can't stand that badge magic. It really makes a mess of the shirts after a few wash and dries. I just sew the badges on now. I know the previous poster said that the badges are too thick, but don't sew through the actual badge, just run the needle through the threads toward the underside of the badge. I just sew a few stitches at the top, bottom, left, and right. Done.

Good luck.

Long time scout leader here . . . those iron-on products don't work. They don't even work temporarily, let alone after washing. You wouldn't believe how many badges I've picked up off the floor after the girls are gone, and we never figure out to whom they belong.

Needle and thread. That's the only way. Once you just sit down to do it, it's quick and easy -- maybe 5 minutes per badge, 10 minutes for a big patch.

This is one of those situations where shortcuts just aren't worth it.

We've used Badge Magic for a year now, on 2 of my boys' Scout uniforms.

No complaints here. But I wash the shirts on cold and hang to dry. I don't worry about sticky residue, as wherever I have the badge, if it needs to come off, another badge is put in its place (ie, rank advancement).

That said, I wouldn't put it in the dryer, as I had a friend who had a sticky mess afterwards on her shirt. I'm not so sure she made sure all the 'glue' was rolled up under the badge after 'installation', though?. :confused3

I've been using Badge Magic for a few years now and have had no problem with badges falling off with multiple washings. I also use it on my son's Tae Kwon Do uniform which is washed weekly and my daughter's Girl Scout uniform with no problem.

Most badges, at least, at the Boy Scout level are replaced with another badge in the same location so I don't worry about residue. I just put another badge in its place.

Hi, this is Dave from Badge Magic. There seem to be a few misconceptions on this thread about Badge Magic. First, it doesn't come in a can. Only in sheet form. Most of the sheets have cut-outs in the shapes of the most common badges for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and AWANA.

Next, Badge Magic is not an iron on product. All you have to do is peel and stick. Ironing softens the adhesive and allows it to be pushed all the way through the weave of the fabric, which is the reason it leaves a residue when the patches are removed. The residue can usually be removed with Goo Gone, Goof Off, Un-Do, dry cleaning, and with a bit of elbow grease and patience.

There are instructions and how-to videos for application and removal on the Badge Magic website. If you need Badge Magic right away, call your local Boy Scout or Girl Scout shop to see if they have it. Most of them do but call ahead to be sure. You can also order it on-line from our web site and many others.

If you ever have any questions or need help with Badge Magic, send an e-mail to us and we will get back to you right away during normal business hours, Pacific time.
