5 Guys Burgers and Peanut Oil

There's a burger restaurant in San Diego called "Cheeburger Cheeburger" (a franchise I think). They fry all their stuff in peanut oil also. My DD7 is peanut allergic, so no dice with them. It's an interesting decision to use peanut oil knowing that they've shut out a reasonable number of customers. Does peanut oil make fries taste better? Dunno. :confused3

There is one in Boca Raton too. We walked in, read the sign and walked out in a moment.

I agree that it is an interesting choice of oil for a hamburger joint.

Love love love the burgers and fries. Each burger is cooked when you order it and then condiments are added to your order.

The fries are cooked in peanut oil which is how my mother always made homemade french fries....

They are very careful to post signs outside the building about the peanuts.

Unfortunately, yes.

Studies have shown that most people with peanut allergies don't react to refined peanut oil. The oil itself isn't a problem, the nuts everywhere definitely are.

It does make the fries MUCH better than regular oil.

Does the fries take on a nutty taste. I never had peanut oil fries. It doesn't sound appealing to me. :confused3

We've had one here in PA for about a year now. We have never been there because of my DS's peanut allergy!

Chick Fil A also fries their food in peanut oil. It is the refined kind so I guess that is why people don't seem to have a big problem with it.

I think the nuts on the floor would be more of the deal breaker than the oil based on people stating that refined peanut oil seems to be safe.

This is true for 100% pure peanut oil. If any peanut "particles" get past the filters, though, then it's time to break out the Epi-Pens. I don't have a problem with eateries that use peanut oil, there are plenty of other places to go to eat.

Five Guys fries are the best I've ever had, no nutty taste at all.
And I love the peanuts they have out for people to munch on while they wait for their orders. Makes the wait more pleasant.

I had 5 Guys in DC last summer and would LOVE if they opened here. So good and SUCH a bargain.

Haven't read all the responses, but let me say Five Guys makes fantastic burgers. And yes, there are peanuts everwhere. Sacks of them, cups of them to nibble on while you wait for your meal, shells on the floor. Not exactly a place someone wants to be if they have a peanut allergy.

ETA: Now I want Five Guys for dinner.

We have one by us and I love it. I don't go that often but I definitely consider it a nice treat. Their fries and burgers are SO good!!! :cloud9:

Thanks to this post .I just found out we have one nearby...
I must give it a try!!:thumbsup2

OP sorry that it is not a good place for your DD

My peanut allergic son loves 5 Guys!! Bad Mom here!!! He absolutely does not set foot in the restaurant. I go in and get him a burger (cooked on the griddle, no oil) and bring it out to the car.

We have both 5 Guys and Cheeburger Cheeburger and they are both AWESOME! 5 Guys is about 10 min away, CC is about 30 min away. Actually, there are 2 5 Guys in Frederick. I personally don't care much for Red Robin. I don't dislike it, but it's not where I'd choose to go for a burger.

Five Guys open about 10mins. for us a few months ago. Yummy! Their fries are the BEST! Peanut oil makes alot of things yummier. I have a recipe for Asian salad that calls for peanut oil. If I do not have it, I do not make that salad. No comparison, imho.

Our Five Guys has peanuts but not all over the floor.

Aside from making the best burgers and fries EVER, you can call ahead to place your order so you don't have to wait when you get there, though they don't make the fries until you're there. As soon as I found that out, I programmed them into my cell phone.

As for fries made in peanut oil, they are the best! I think they are more potatoier (like that word?) tasting than fries made in vegetable oil.

Popping back into this thread to make the comment that I'm still craving a Five Guys burger. I'm going to have to go there tomorrow. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Mmmmm looooove 5 Guys. Definitely one of the best fast food burgers around. I just wish one would open a little closer to where I live. There are several here in Richmond, but the closest is about a 15 minute drive; CC and now Red Robin are about 7 minutes away.

DW Lauri and I got take-out from Red Robin this evening. It's been a while since I've eaten there and still a very good burger. Interestingly enough, the place was packed for a Thursday night. I don't know if it still has the newness to it or if they were doing a kid's night deal (they did have the mascot there), but I was surprised how busy they were for a weeknight.
