Of course you don't have to be sitting in a space capsule....any Amtrak passengers?....17 hours for me is Salem Oregon to Sacramento, California...of course we had fresh air break in K-falls...so winter dark makes it easy

I have a transpacific flight coming up soon. Its not 17 hours, but pretty darn close and Im freaking. Covid lockdowns were a breeze compared to what Im about to go through

Well hi Or neighbor
I did Albany Or to Paso Robles Ca and back a couple years ago. It was long and as soon as it got dark you couldn't see anything outside. I'd do it again but I'd rather have a roomette than just a seat. At least then I'd be able to get some sleep. :thumbsup2

Beats a 14+ hour flight from San Francisco to China. At least you can get up and walk around on a train.

I took Amtrak from MA to Atlanta once. I didn't pee from NY to Atlanta because the bathroom stunk so bad.

Oh my....yes a problem...so you have to watch the seat conductor and if they come up from down stairs... they just cleaned and sometimes on lengthy fresh air break... bathroom is always clean when we leave Sacramento South

Dulles to Cape Town, South Africa....I watched the first season of a Canadian TV show not available in US. Watched season two on the way back. I'm going to South Korea in June and hope. I can watch season three.

I am not sure I could do it, my longest flight was from DFW to HNL (Honolulu) and it just about does me in. It is too much stress. My kids were in HS the first time we flew home on an overnight flight, they wanted to sit together rather than split up with mom and dad. I did not sleep at all, it took me a couple of weeks to recover.

I have always wanted to go to Australia, I don't know if I can handle the flights.

Son and I would travel to Disneyland by train out of Salem... I moved to Yuma in 2017 and now travel to Salem... Coast starlight North bound is fantastic as you can choose your seat...and is only full between San Luis and Sacramento...and if you are a class of 1991 rebel... you might know me

We just flew MCO to London-Gatwick. Was a little over 9 hour flight but when we boarded we sat on the ground for 2.5 hours before leaving as they repaired some instrumental issue. Was like 12 hours on the plane. I had some meds to help with the anxiety and they wiped me right out. Thank goodness. Then we took a transatlantic cruise back.

We do the auto train to/from Sanford, FL and Lorton, VA often. Have one coming up in April. It's something like 4pm to 9am. But we can move around, eat and drink and sleep (can even shower, but we don't).

We have done Amtrak from Emeryville CA to Boston MA in a bedroom (3 nights on the train) and Amtrak Boston to Orlando in coach (one night on the train).

I would take either of those anytime over being stuck on a long flight.
Our longest flight ended up being from Boston to Hawaii for 24 hours of travel due to plane have mechanical issues halfway in AZ.
Much rather be delayed on the train!

Well Coast starlight is delayed north 6 hours... always seems to be delayed at Emeryville... upside is that dunsmuiir canyon was visible... the most beautiful scenery on the entire route...on time train north and south... dunsmuiir canyon always dark
