Just got back from Aulani staying in a DVC room from February 28 to March 5. I highly recommend renting a wheelchair or scooter to get around the resort if you're like me with difficulty in walking.
Some background: I have trouble walking long distances. Usually at the Disney parks, I rent a wheelchair but I'm mobile enough to walk from the bus to the wheelchair rental (after that, I'm exhausted). I can usually walk from the bus to my room at the DVC resorts of Animal Kingdom Lodge Jambo House and Grand Californian.
So I initially did not rent a wheelchair. Big mistake! Aulani is a lot bigger than AKL or GCH! It was a large hike for me to go from the lobby to the room in Eva tower (the elevators are a whole wing away from the lobby. I also could barely make it to Ulu cafe. There wasn't a lot of benches to sit and rest, only pool chairs which were already claimed. So quickly realized that I needed to rent a wheelchair. I called the front desk for recommendations. Since it was the weekend, some places weren't open and all requested a 3 day advance reservation! Luckily, Ugo Mobility was able to rent me a wheelchair the next day and my vacation was saved! I was able to use it around the resort, Polynesian Cultural Center, Dole Pineapple Plantation and getting to the Ko Olina restaurants and the Secret Beach (via the sidewalks and not over the rocks!)
