Uhm....Bahamas is now requiring vaccinations for all passengers over 12..

My heart goes out to the families of almost 12 year olds sailing shortly after their child turns 12, yet too soon to get them fully vaxxed. We are sailing in January, with an almost five year old-turning five February 21. My daughter commented that ages 5-12 may be eligible for the vaccine in October/November, and 6 months-4 years in early 2022. We wondered if we could wind up in the same boat, no pun intended. We are concerned as the vaccination age changes, so will the Bahamas' law, affecting more and more families with kids in this catch 22.

I hope they will have some leeway around that. If someone is not technically eligible to be fully vaccinated hopefully there will be some buffer. Fingers crossed for those this will affect ….

Yep...this is us. Daughter turns 12 three days before our sailing...her birthday sailing. Booked over a year ago in the depths of quarantine when she was upset after losing months of school, summer camp, a softball season, months of swim team, theater and tons of social events last year.

paid in full, excursions, travel, car rental, hotel, etc..all booked and paid in full and now this

Does this mean that mean between the day a child turns 12 and 12 months and x number of weeks to get vaccinated (two doses, plus x number of weeks to take full affect) you can’t cruise?

It doesn’t affect me, just pondering there may be this odd gap of exile cruisers for now until younger children can get vaccinated. I feel badly for them and their families. What an odd and unexpected side effect of this type of policy.

Not sure what DCL will do, but for NCL anyone over age 12 must be fully vaccinated. So if your child is just turning 12, you can't plan a cruise until the 5 weeks or so after they turn 12, to allow the time for full vaccination.

Actually, NCL is not allowing anyone under the age of 12 on their ships. They sued to be able to travel at 100% vaccinated cruise, and have extended it with all their cruises through the end of this year.

Once again, I don't even have a horse in this race, but I'm sucked in! popcorn::I have to find out what DCL decides.

I know it's almost a lose-lose with whatever new protocols they drop as they can't in a million years hope to make everyone happy, but I sincerely hope whoever wants to cruise gets to cruise.

Why is the mandate only through November? Are they hoping Covid won't be a thing by then? (Coming from someone who in March 2020 said " Oh i'm sure it'll only be a few weeks!" 🤦‍♀️😅
Only the Bahamas can answer that. Maybe they want to only do a few months at a time and extend as needed. Maybe they are aligning to the CDC CSO expiration. At this point, I would ignore the expiration dates of any orders and assume they will stay (or get more restrictive) over time until we really see a reduction in Covid cases.

I'd imagine it will be extended then, but in the short term, it gives them time to try to get more of their population vaccinated and time to see what happens. The Delta variant swept through India quick and harsh, but the insane spike was rather short in time relative to the course of COVID in its entirety. This variant is so contagious that it burns through the population quickly.

You missed the 2 weeks after the last dose to be considered "fully vaccinated" so it would need to be five (5) weeks after turning 12.

But since The Bahamas didn't specify any type of grace period, I don't think the cruise line could implement one.
Whatever. It’s just an example. :-)

I do not expect to see anything meaningful from Disney today. They will stick their head in the sand and ignore this until next week.

It is annoying that they won't at least send out an email along the lines of "we are aware of the recent changes by the Bahamas and are evaluating upcoming itineraries, we plan to reach out soon with more info". They are going to get so many people showing up for cruises on and after 9/3 who aren't aware of the new rules.

Unless Disney is content to hand out even more free cruises to people, they need to get their stuff in gear!
