I love credit cards so much!

Though, it's mainly because there needs to be an override key at the cashier for VGCs over a certain amount, so $500 is inevitable...so the same person at the service center would have to come over to the cashier for my VGC. This is why I usually purchase my VGCs at the service desk to avoid holding up the normal cashier lines.

I figure its $.12 more per $500 in MO...well worth the ease...and never any lines either.

I remembered why I would go to 2 different locations now...

I’m a first time poster on this thread, so I’m sorry if I’m hijacking! I just figured y’all would be the best people to ask!

I’m looking for a good balance transfer card. My current Discover It card’s promo will be up in November and I want to transfer my remaining debt to a no-frills card purely to pay it off. Any recommendations?

Chase Slate tends to be a good card for balance transfers.

Well, I was at an appt and saw a Walgreens across the street, so I went in and bought a $25 WF gift card plus a small item I wanted and RMN is showing $10 pending!

Amex Premier Rewards Gold Revamped! 4x MR on Groceries and Restaurants, $120 Dining Credit (at Select Food Delivery Services and Restaurants) Per Year.

Today Amex announced new benefits of this card:
  • $120 Dining Credit: You get $10 monthly dining credit available at Grubhub, Seamless, The Cheesecake Factory, Ruth's Chris Steak House, Shake Shack. Must enroll first and pay using Premier Rewards Gold card.

  • 4x points at US restaurant

  • 4x points at US supermarket, up to $25k purchase per calendar year.

  • 2x points at US gas station is removed.
As the OP says, the new benefit makes this card a no-brainer for a lot of folks.

The PRG comes with an easily pulled 50k MR/$2k MSR incognito offer, first year AF waived and $195 AF afterwards.

The PRG’s benefits include a calendar year $100 airline fee credit that works the same way as the Platinum and Hilton Aspire. Now, the PRG also includes a $120 dining credit to select restaurants and food delivery services, doled out at $10 increments every month. And the 4x MR at restaurants and grocery stores is better than a lot of other cards.

This card was on the chopping block for me come renewal time next year, but I may end up keeping it for a slice of cheesecake every month. Thank you, Amex!

You totally got my attention with this post. I guess that's not surprising. Then I started reading about points being taken back. We have never had an issue, but also just had the one card. I was thinking this would be great since we spend a fair amount each month on groceries and dining, but now I'm not sure...

WHOA WHOA WHOA! It is definitely not OK to take away someone's points they legitimately earned. What in the world!? So any company can just decide too bad for you. We are taking your points back!? What!?:faint: Unbelievable.

Amex has clawed back MR points before; most notoriously with the leaked Thanksgiving 100k MR Platinum link about 2-3 years ago? Amex froze accounts to conduct reviews, and if they found you MSed your points were gone.

It is concerning that the DP says he did not MS. But under more recently added anti-churning terms, the RATs pretty much have sole discretion to determine if you've been "gaming" Amex.

Guys lol...my Angry Churning grandpa side came out on r/churning today LOLOLOL!! (See here: https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/9hecnv/daily_discussion_thread_september_20_2018/e6bmxzo/)

I dunno why but I LOVE hearing from all my friends here that their points have posted. BUT when people share it on r/churning on the DD thread I'm like "c'mon get over yourself!!" Perhaps it's because there are thousands of people commenting over there and it isn't really a community of friends. Oh well - I promise Angry Churner Grandpa won't come out here with you guys :) :p

There's a personal element to our posts here. When you post, your Lions Helmet in your avatar announces it's SouthFayetteFan! When I read on reddit, I barely even note the poster's name, so unless they say something special and I want to know who they are, I don't even pay attention. But here, everyone is someone and even newbies quickly become real as they share bits about what part of the country they live in, whether they have kids and P2's and what they want from credit cards. Reddit seems sort of anonymous unless someone is being obnoxious.

Yeah - I love the avatar AND signature piece of discussing here. It does feel so much more personal!

For those that haven't seen the SCARY DARK side of AMEX...

They have this wording in their applications:
“If we in our sole discretion determine that you have engaged in abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with the welcome bonus offer in any way or that you intend to do so (for example, if you applied for one or more cards to obtain a welcome bonus offer(s) that we did not intend for you; if you cancel or downgrade your account within 12 months after acquiring it; or if you cancel or return purchases you made to meet the Threshold Amount), we may not credit Membership Rewards Points to, we may freeze Membership Rewards Points credited to, or we may take away Membership Rewards Points from your account. We may also cancel this Card account and other Card accounts you may have with us.“

AND They have been known to literally clawback points right out of your account with no warning. They also have frozen people's points (ALL OF THEM) while they "investigate" things. I typically get my points with AMEX and get them OUT because of some of the horror stories I've read (although I'd always assume what I've done with them is on the up and up!)

And this "if you cancel or downgrade your account within 12 months after acquiring it" is where I think that guy screwed it. Although, I honestly didn't think they'd claw ALL of them back. It says they may cancel any or all other card accounts, but I wouldn't interpret that as I can take back every bonus you ever earned because you gamed me for this one.

But yeah, scary. This is the boogieman you all warn newbies about at night when they ask "can I close my account after getting the bonus?" Doesn't really feel real until it pops up in your timeline (I think hearing 'oh last year there was a guy that got it clawed back' or whatever doesn't have the same impact) with a first hand account... even if it's just random internet dude.

I like Meta too, but all the grocery stores around me carry US Bank so I'm stuck.
I did pull one from the rack one time that had the same packaging but different bank. Still worked the same. I will check it out next time...I am just so use to grabbing for the black packaging.

i recall the same. USBGC should work at WM.

Yeah, the ones I used yesterday were USB VGCs. I had a bad experience with a USB MCGC at WM (register wouldn't take it, manager - incidentally the same one who did the mos for me last night - had to come over and eventually I had to pay it with a real debit card and add in a stick of gum and $100 cash back so that I could give them the $100 so that I could get my 1k mo, it took forever and almost turned me off mos entirely) so I'm sticking with the VGCs. I've since read on FT that you have to take an extra step with MCGC at WM, so I'm staying away from those.

Now I am tempted to cash out my MR's. Wasn't planning on going the Schwab route. I have 85,000 in my account (so not a ton). But with all that is happening and harder to get cards for now, wondering if I should cash out. We have a Carnival Cruise in March and they have a Carnival Corp Card that can be cashed out 1:1. If I am reading correctly - this card can be used to book cruises or pay for items on the ship just like regular gift card on any of Carnival Brand ships. Has anyone done this - want to verify before I do this.
