Bad DVC Reviews

I am at SSR right now. I love the resort. I love being able to walk to DS in less than 5 minutes. I love being able to park close. I love the landscaping and golf course. My favorite resort. Even though I own at BLT I rarely stay there.

But GOSH do these rooms need a refurb DESPERATELY. The couch is so worn out that no one can sit on it. My DH prefers to sit in my rollator’s seat so that’s saying something.

The fan looks like a $49 special from BIg Lots. The rest of the furniture is just so old, very dated and just plain worn out. The rugs are worn from from traffic.

And it’s not just this one room. This is our third stay since September 2017. And 3 trips the year before. All of the rooms are like this.

So why do we continue to stay here? Location, location, location. Plus availability with short notice.
As members we should build a members board and make them accountable , if it wasn't for us they would be nothing

After selling a resort out, it's like DVC doesn't care anymore and they let the rooms slowly fade.

:earsboy: Bill
Plus they just do crappy renovations that paint furniture, put in cheaper stuff that was in before and spend a bundle on pictures and décor. They always say a 100% renovation but it's usually just 75% or less.

You don't understand how DVC works, I take it. There are no members on the board, just DVC selected persons. Members have no say so.

It is technically possible. However even in the alternative universe that you got a majority of the condo association to approve a different board, as soon as it wasn't managed and maintained exactly to DVDMC's standards (which are vague, meaning flexible to their advantage), they have the right to terminate the vacation ownership plan, thereby expiring all the deeds. Thus, we have the improbable ability to screw ourselves over completely if we really REALLY want to and work hard at it.

I take reviews like these with grains of salt. Some people complain to hear their own voices. You have to wonder what their expectations were, where they typically stay, and if they did any research? Yes rooms get old and need refurbishment, but it doesn't happen every year.
  • "No housekeeping", um this is a DVC resort there isn't housekeeping. Do your homework.
  • "Cockroaches on the stairs", this is Florida, they're everywhere!!! I've since learned this after moving from the west coast to the south.
  • "Small rooms", what did you expect? We were amazed at the Poly room sizes for standard rooms. Plus they sleep 5!
  • "Incompetent staff". While we've met some clueless cast members over the years, we've also interacted with plenty of fantastic, well informed cast members.
Exactly

And no where was edible food found, these poor folks must have withered away, spending an entire week with nothing to eat! Give me a break, there’s that word again - INEDIBLE

I'm pretty picky about hotel rooms and cleanliness. Stayed at SSR in Feb and was worried based on so much negativity. It was worn, but not unclean. It was so quiet and peaceful and we could walk to DTD in 6 minutes. Agree with location, location, location.

At SSR now for the second time in 6 months. Have stayed in a 1 BR each visit in the Paddocks. The rooms both times have been in fine shape - clean showers with no mold, working bulbs, no chipped paint; however, it is definitely time to replace the sofas for both their functions as sofa and bed. They are aesthetically okay but the cushions and mattress are done. A refurb is scheduled for later this year or early next year, yet I hope they don’t do to SSR what they’ve done to OKW (I think it looks like an expensive hospital in the BR).

That's what it looks like. I was in the hospital in January for one night and it looks just like OKW new bathrooms. Except minus the call bell, bed pan, etc.

I agree about the OKW rehab, but I'm thinking generic is what the resorts will be seeing in the future. Trying to make everything look "modern." Look at the Poly, the main lobby used to be gorgeous, now it could be any hotel lobby, anywhere.

The 1 beds in SSR are generally in very good shape. Dis on YouTube (Pete) recently praised how his 1 bed looked almost new.
I think the studios get a lot more hammer.
The whole thing is being refurbed starting 2019.

SSR, BWV, & PVB included in these reviews:

I know BWV and PVB they are talking about the Inn and hotel rooms but DVC is still part of resorts.

Our other favorite vacation spot is the Sandals resorts in the Caribean. If you look on trip advisor there are many bad reviews. If you read between the lines you can tell a lot of the posters have never even been there. Once in a while they will even admit to it.

Having been in healthcare where “Patient Satisfaction” seems to run everything these days I can tell you that out of 10 people who were at the same hospital/resort/restaurant or where ever 8 will have a good experience, 1 a great experience and 1 some issues. But you will hear more from the 1 who had some issues than from all the rest combined! And with the internet and social media you hear even more! So I tend to take these very negative “reviews” with a grain of salt.
Have I had issues? Yes occasionally. My family still repeats the story of one of our big trips when I checked all the lights and lamps for burned out bulbs as soon as we entered the room! But that was merely because I always seem to find the one lamp that I really want to use has a burned out bulb after dark!
And I have always found the CMs to be very responsive to my concerns. Would I post a scathing review because of a burned out bulb? No. And if my family was complaining about something that is obvious (BWV restaurants outside on the Boardwalk) I would probably laugh :D.

We have been going to Disneyworld since it first opened and DVC members for years but have seen quality and care go down dramatically. It was so bad on a last trip I sold our points to SSR. Issues dirty (room and exterior), light bulbs missing/burnt out, entrance doors that locks fell off, appliances (major) that did not work, rats, worst was when I turned on a UV light that we carry and it lit room & bathrooms up like watching fireworks. I wrote a letter to complain and received a call saying "we are soooo soooorrrry for issues". We did call housekeeping and had them come and re-clean the room and supply towels to us; yes did not even have towels. I know I will get flamed for this, but DVC is not doing their part and as long as people just go along and not complain things will get worse and Maintenance fees will continue to keep going up.
We did keep points to another resort and hopefully it will be better on our next trip.

Was the rat alive or dead? Morbid curiosity.

Do you find your experience with DVC to be trending worse every year since you joined, or is this a recent trend of falling precipitously?

And do you find this across all resorts, or are there particular ones that are better or worse than others?

Like the letter on the bed says , let them know if there's anything wrong .. 3rd letter to ken potrock with pictures, maybe the charm?? Dont think so , this time letters going to jeff vahle the guy they just put over mr potrock , apparently ken cant do his job right so they had to put someone over him ...

We were very satisfied with our first stay at SSR this past week. Studio over in the paddock. Ground floor in 5100 building with a beautiful view of the pond with the fountain. Steps to our car. 30 seconds to the pool. 5 minute walk to the main lobby and boat to DS. Very friendly CM's. The room was worn but clean. It needs a rehab. My only complaint really was that the room was always damp.
