Our delicious Deluxe Dining Adventures! Lots of pics! Final thoughts - All Done!!

Thanks for the reviews, they're awesome! Can't wait to hear about Boma breakfast. I scheduled that for our trip in May and am anxious to hear how it is.

A friend at work suggested I try Kona Cafe after her recent trip, and your review has cinched it. Hoping to go back in November (REALLY hoping), and if we do, Kona will be on the ADR list!!

As always, wonderful updates!!!

We really enjoyed Kona for dinner, breakfast not so much but I think that's b/c all I kept hearing about was Tonga Toast and we really didnt like the Tonga Toast too much:sad2: so that wreaked that meal. But dinnner was very good and we stayed at Poly so it was soooo close;)

I felt the same way about Kona! The service is okay (they do their job, but I haven't ever had people go over and above.) It does feel like a typical hotel cafe, but the food is wonderful!

Ok - I'm trying to decide between a breakfast at CM before MK opens, OR a lunch at either the Plaza or Liberty Tree Tavern.
We're planning on going to 1900 Park Fair that night, so not anything huge.

Thoughts???

We always do a TS breakfast and a TS dinner and we don't eat much inbetween, just a light snack. I find if you do a sit down lunch and a sit down dinner, its too much food in a short time. So I would suggest doing CM for breakfast since you are going to 1900 Park Fare for dinner! (one of my fave dinners:thumbsup2

This thread is absolutely terrific!!! Thanks so much! The family will be going to a few of these places when we are there! Not I am even more excited!!!

DH went for the Kona Cone...

IMG_9838.jpg

He was a bit worried this was actually a kid's dessert, but it's not on the kid's menu! Heh! Inside each corner of that silver tray are little decorative candies and nuts and things that you can add to your ice-cream. Which DH did, of course!! He loved it! I had a taste and it was great ice-cream. I don't think either of us ate the cotton candy, what a shame!

My girls are so jealous that your DH got to eat this...and they just can't understand why neither of you ate the cotton candy. :confused3 Cotton candy is sacred in kid-dom. Especially when they have a mean mom who won't let them eat it very often! ;)

I just did a marathon read of your whole review!
I am thoroughly enjoying it and finding it very helpful. For our next trip I had wanted to try Grand Floridian Cafe and Ohana, and possibly CRT if we can get it. I was happy to see you reviewing them!

LOVED the photos of Cindy with those 2 little girls...so cute!

Hello, I have been lurking on the boards for probably over a year, off and on; last year when I planned a Disney vacation for my 1st grandchild who turned 2 and loves Disney as much as I do...I came back again to research a bit because she is turning 3 and I am taking her back again, we are both really excited to go. I will be traveling with my DH and the baby. I own a transcription service and work from home. This is my first subscribe and I just wanted to let you know how much I have enjoyed your adventures in dining and vacationing. I enjoyed this one so much I read your first posting through and actually had tears in my eyes when reading about your proposal! Your writing made me go get popcorn to eat while reading, made me laugh out loud on many occasions where my family is thinking I am going batty spending too much time working and really touched me. This board is just wonderful and I feel like you all are friends here. Keep up the great posts! I am going to read the last thread from you...then don't know how to pass my time between listening to garbled dictations and answering my phone, but this has been a blast and made me jump out of bed every morning with a smile on my face!! I had more posts to read!!!

Just wanted to say thank you very much for taking the time to share with us in such a way where we feel like we are right there with you.

:flower3:

OMG after reading your report.... I think I'm going to have to upgrade to Deluxe Dining in Sept (If of course they offer the free dining!).... I'm so craving every single food picture you posted... seriously! :)

Wow I am laughing at myself because I just spent way too long reading this whole review, and I am not even planning a trip to WDW any time soon! Haha. But great job, you made me wish we could go back now to try all of this yummy food. I am glad you had such a nice trip and thanks for all of the great reviews!

I'm glad you enjoyed the reviews, even though you're not planning a trip - yet!! You could start planning your next trip... now! :yay:

Thanks for the reviews, they're awesome! Can't wait to hear about Boma breakfast. I scheduled that for our trip in May and am anxious to hear how it is.

Boma breakfast review coming up in a moment! Thanks for reading!

Yay! I hope you enjoy Kona! The food is great!! :thumbsup2

Aww, sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your Tonga Toast! Lucky you, staying at the Poly though!! It's beautiful!!

That's a good way of describing Kona. The food really is great!! :woohoo:

Hmm, well Chef Mickeys, The Plaza and Liberty Tree Tavern are all quite different, so it really depends on what you like! We really enjoyed Chef Mickeys for breakfast, and since you're going to dinner, that might work well? But that's two buffet character meals in one day - it depends if you love them that much or not!! The Plaza is a nice, easy place for burgers and sandwiches, and Liberty Tree Tavern is a pretty traditional, big meal. So really, it depends what you think you'll fancy on the day!! We enjoyed all three restaurants though!

Chef Mickeys is great! :thumbsup2

Thanks for your review of Kona, as we are trying it for the first time in June.

No worries! I hope you enjoy it in June!! :)

Quick question about your Kona entree. Were the shrimp fried?

Thanks,
penny

Yep, it was breaded and fried. Unhealthy, but yummy!! :woohoo:

The Kona Cone was great! Your girls will have to have it next time. ;) As for not eating the cotton candy... we were just too full! I normally love cotton candy, and I can't quite believe I left it either!

I'm so glad you've enjoyed my reviews! You did a great job of reading them all in one sitting!! Food overload! Hehee! I hope you enjoy all those yummy places on your next trip!

Wow, what a lovely post!! And your first one, too! Welcome officially to the DIS boards, even though you've been lurking for a while. :cool1:
I'm so glad you've enjoyed my dining reviews (and trip reports!) so far! And what nice compliments, thank you!! Don't worry - there'll be plenty more updates to come in my current trip report! You should pop over there and say hi too!
Hope you have a blast in Disney with your DH and your grandchild! :cheer2:

Hehee, I know what it's like to crave photos from the DIS boards!! It was fun to try all those restaurants, but we wouldn't do the Deluxe Plan again - it was way too much food. We were constantly full! I'm glad you've enjoyed the photos though!! :)

Alrighty, Boma breakfast review coming up now!

The next morning was our last full day at Disney!! :scared1: So sad!! We were off to Animal Kingdom again, but first, we headed to Animal Kingdom Lodge for our breakfast ADR at Boma!

IMG_9212.jpg

Yep, we'd already been there for dinner - but after seeing lots of great breakfast photos here on the DIS boards, we had to make a breakfast ADR too! I fancied all the little pastries - mostly the cinammon rolls! They looked so delicious!

Remember how I'd been feeling a bit icky and squirmy in my tummy? Well now it was DH's turn. He really didn't feel well that morning. He still wanted to go for breakfast though - he thought some food might help. Poor DH!

So we had an 8.05am reservation. We checked in 5 minutes before, and were seated pretty much straight away. The restaurant was really only half full at that stage, which was nice. :thumbsup2

We met our server, and started with some juice - We both just had orange juice, which was nice and simple.

Then it was buffet time!! We headed over to the pods and stocked up our plates. Here's mine...

IMG_9869.jpg

Up the top is a cheesy omelette, then banana bread, bacon, a cinammon roll and I think that thing on the left might be brioche - like raison toast?

If you're thinking there's not much on my plate, you're right!! We'd been eating 3 massive meals a day for 11 days, and we were both FULL. Not full in a nice way. Full in a way that you feel bloated and gross and the sight of food made you feel worse. I really just nibbled at the food on my plate at Boma - what a waste!! But at the time, I just couldn't face any more food.

So how was the food? It was good, but not outstanding. The omelette was fine, the bacon was normal bacon, the banana bread was good, I can't remember the brioche at all, and the cinammon roll was yummy, but not as fresh as I would have liked. Actually, it tasted a bit dry and stale.

Here's DH's plate...

IMG_9870.jpg

Yep, there's even less than mine!! Poor DH, he really wasn't feeling well and fruit was about all he could face. There's also a little chocolate croissant and an omelette there too. He nibbled at his food too - mostly just the fruit, which he said was nice and fresh.

I went back for another plate. I had to try another cinammon roll! Maybe my other one was just bad luck!?

IMG_9872.jpg

Clockwise from the top - A cinammon roll, chocolate croissant, fruit, more bacon and a muffin.

This cinammon roll wasn't much better, I'm afraid. They just didn't taste fresh! Maybe they'd been sitting around for a few days. :sad2: Anyhoo, the fruit was good and the chocolate croissant was yummy.

Overall, we weren't really impressed with Boma for breakfast. But then, maybe we were just too full and sick of food to really enjoy it?! We love Boma for dinner, but I don't think we'd do breakfast there again. The food just wasn't as fresh or as tasty as I'd hoped. It wasn't terrible, just not fantastic either!

We gave our Boma breakfast 3 smiley men out of 5. :) :) :) (Mostly for the nice fresh fruit!)

Sorry this didn't live up to the hype for you guys. We love it there for breakfast and we always go on our last day at Disney. My favorite thing is the carved ham with the Boma mustard. Actually, all the meats at the carving station get a big thumbs up from me.

Aw I am so sad that you didn't get to try more of the yummy things at the Boma breakfast. It is my absolute favorite, but then again when we know we are going to eat there we don't eat much the day before to prepare our stomachs to be stuffed! Haha. We never do the dining plan so this is a big treat for us. But even though it is my favorite, I agree I am not a huge fan of their cinnamon rolls, they are just sort of sticky, but the bread is dry. I love their curry sausage biscuit dish so much we are making it for Easter breakfast this year (or at least we are going to try!).

I can't wait to read more :)

I am so sorry that you didnt like Boma that much...it is one of our fave places to go but I will admit there are a few items on the buffet that I do not care for either
