I honestly thought the thread was a typo or a joke when I first saw the title. Is the wife being creepy by hiring a PI? Or is she just being a WIFE?

IMHO, hiring a PI, unless it is for one's own protection and well being, is creepy.
Being a wife has absolutely nothing, at all, to do with that equation.

If there is more to this divorce taking a long time than he is telling the OP.....and there very likely is..... then there might be several legitimate reasons for the wife to hire a PI. It's not as if the wife is posting here and we can hear her side of events. How do any of us, including the OP, know WHAT he is telling his wife?

There is no custody issue. PIs are expensive. If there's alimony at stake then a PI could be worth the money.
If there's no custody or alimony issue, then what's the worth of an expensive PI? If paid only for intimidation purposes, sounds a bit scary.

Things that make people do stuff they regret: love, money & jealousy. Scary territory.

I agree with PP - a PI would also be worthwhile, and not creepy, if she is using the PI to garner information that can be used in determination of custody and/or alimony.
