If it's the January 14th cruise, we are booked on this as well! First time for us out of PR as well. We're actually heading down 2 days early to do some visiting in San Juan so I love the suggestions above. I also looked at hotels for January and was quite surprised at the cost for 2 nights. With all the hidden resort fees and taxes it was almost an extra $1000 CDN for us
! I'm guessing maybe because of the San Sebastian street festival that starts on January 17th? I'd rather spend that on excursions so we were able to find an Airbnb right on the beach instead that we have booked for now....although I will definitely be looking at some of the above suggestions as well.
I've looked at the bioluminescent bays as well and I heard that since the hurricane, there hasn't been much to see in terms of bioluminescent activity and that it was disappointing. I know my daughters would absolutely love this but I'm hesitant to book for this reason. I also read that you see more activity (or is at least easier to see) when there is a new moon and unfortunately when we're there, the moon will be about half. Has anyone gone recently and can comment on this?
Either way, walking around Old San Juan and the forts look amazing and my hubby and I are definitely interested in the Bacardi Rum factory (although I can't imagine my girls will be quite as excited as us about that tour.
)
